Greek Life Presents 'These Hands Don't Haze'
by Kate Sine
Everyone wants to be accepted. They want to make friends; they want to be part of a family unit outside their home. So, people join clubs, sports teams and Greek life. But even though there is acceptance found in these communities, there is also danger. This danger is called hazing. Where members of these groups lash out dares and threaten to shut pledges doors into the groups if they do not accept the feats, hazing is unacceptable. Bruises, black eyes, lawsuits and numerous other things branch from hazing. Instead of being welcomed into a group with open arms, these groups welcome new members with no mercy.
Nicole Amos, a sophomore at Frostburg State University is starting off her first year strong as Greek Council Standards chairman. She was given the task to plan the program, 'These Hands Don't Haze,' an annual event that spreads awareness of hazing within one sole week of September and is sponsored by the Greek Council as well. The program, held in the Lane University Center, begins September 21st and concludes on the 25th. This event will teach others how to be aware of hazing, in order to avoid being harmed by it.

CES presents Capstone Concert
Jayme Stone's
Lomax Project
Saturday, September 19 at 7:30 PM
Frostburg Palace Theatre, 31 E. Main Street
"They've put a fresh contemporary sound on musical treasures found in Lomax's deep and rich archives." - NPR
The Lomax Project is the latest adventure from Juno Award-winning musician, Jayme Stone. As a banjoist and composer, Stone makes music inspired by sounds from around the world. His award-winning albums defy and honor the banjo's long role in the world's music.
Focusing on songs collected by legendary folklorist Alan Lomax (1915-2002), the Lomax Project reimagines traditional music from up and down the North American continent, including Bahamian sea chanties, African-American a cappella singing from the Georgia Sea Islands, ancient Appalachian ballads, fiddle tunes, and work songs collected from well-known musicians and everyday folk like sea captains, cowhands, fishermen, prisoners and homemakers.
