MABUL (The Flood) - Guy Nattiv - Israel

film
International Film: Mabul
[The Flood]
(2011) Israel

March 25, 2014  * 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Lane University Center 113

Co-written and directed by Guy Nattiv

Introduced by Dr. Hana Bor, Associate Professor of Family Studies & Community Development, and Dr. Beth Haller, Professor of Mass Communication & Communication Studies, Towson University

Based on a short film made by Guy Nattiv in 2002, Mabul does not explore politics, ethnic conflicts, religious issues, social struggles, or economic concerns. It focuses resolutely on the family and what natural forces are necessary for family members to communicate with one another. The film is primarily a coming-of-age drama about Yoni, just weeks away from his Bar Mitzvah. He is insecure about his physical appearance, must survive bullying at school, negotiate estranged and unhappy parents, and endure Torah sessions with his rabbi.  Then his older brother, Tomer (discarded many years ago to an institution for autistic children), enters this dysfunctional environment.  How will Yoni deal with the changing dynamics of his family?  Will he discover that something better may lie on the other side of adversity?  Will he find a way to heal his family?

"At last! A musical of, for and by the people. ... That's entertainment!" - Time Out NY

"Hilarious!" - The New York Times

You suggest the song title. They create a whole new musical! It's the world's first unscripted theatre awards show musical, created anew each time with suggestions from the audience.

Broadway's Next H!T Musical combines musical theatre, comedy and improvisation and allows the audience in on the creative process. With your input, the actors improvise every lyric, every melody, every flashy set of "jazz hands" and every crazy plot twist to create a show that is sidesplittingly funny. It's never the same show twice!

Your fun-filled evening begins when the performers improvise original songs suggested by the audience. One of these songs then gets the full theatrical treatment and becomes a musical production before your very eyes. It's a musical comedy you are bound to love. Why? Because you are part of the creative team. You may even win a PHONY Award!

Broadway's Next H!T Musical has been seen recently at The Triad, the Tribeca Film Festival and the New York Musical Theater Festival and on its tour all over America. Under the direction of improv veterans Rob Schiffman and Deb Rabbai, TheaterWeek has hailed the show as "brilliant" and The New York Post declared it to be "remarkable."

Don't miss the next great American musical!
