This week, the Department of Communication Studies is hosting the Peace March and Community Dialogue Series to emphasize how our campus is working to strengthen the community. Community members will come together to create tangible solutions for deeper-level, sensitive and structurally challenging town-and-gown tensions that bring about safe, secure living conditions and civil relationships between long and short-term residents in the college town.
Have an amazing semester!

JULIE FOWLIS:
MUSIC OF THE SCOTTISH ISLES
| Julie Fowlis: Music of the Scottish Isles |
Tuesday, October 29 * 7:30 PM
Pealer Recital Hall, FSU Performing
Arts Center
Singing in the Gaelic language of her ancestors, charismatic Scottish folksinger Julie Fowlis is a standard-bearer for the music and culture of her homeland. Named by the Scottish Parliament as its first-ever Gaelic ambassador, Fowlis shares the music of centuries past in Music of the Scottish Isles. It is little wonder that when Disney's PIXAR sought an authentic voice to feature in its 2012 animated film, Brave, set in 10th-century Scotland, they recruited Fowlis, who sings two of the film's st
irring songs, "Touch the Sky" and "Into the Open Air" Critics and audiences have been enamored since Fowlis first emerged on the scene. London Evening Standard raved, "There are some voices that carry much more than a melody. They transport you to another place, give you goose flesh and make magic out of thin air. Julie Fowlis has just such a voice." BBC Radio described her music as being like "beautiful messages from another world." Fowlis, who sings as well as plays the pipes, is supported by a gifted ensemble of musicians, including husband Eamon Doorley on bouzouki, Duncan Chisholm on fiddle and Tony Byrne on guitar. This impressive lineup has become known for their expressive and high-energy live show.
Purchase tickets at the Lane University Center Box Office Monday-Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm. $5/FSU Students w/ID * $20/Adults * $17/Youth Under 17 and FSU staff.
