I Need A Job - And Perhaps You Can Help

As an entrepreneur who makes a living writing, speaking, and strategizing with business organizations, and people; I am always doing business development, trying to find new clients for my services. In other words, I am always looking for a job! Therefore, if you are like I am, ending this year looking for work and hoping that you will find some work in 2014, here are three things that you and other job seekers need to do to be successful in finding gainful employment.

1. Tell Everyone That You Are Looking for Employment

Even though the unemployment rate is at a 5-year low of 7%, millions of Americans are still out of work. With 80% of all jobs acquired via networking; you must be specific in telling everyone in your network (AKA), that you are in the job market and that you are looking for employment. Over 3,500 people will receive this blog via email and it will be shared with countless other people on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and on my webpage www.marbenbland.com. Therefore, let me practice what I am preaching and tell you, my network, that I am in the market for a job and this is what I am looking to find.

I make about 100 speeches per year, including keynotes, seminars, and webinars to trade conventions, business and civic groups, churches, and schools. My speeches offer practical, thought-provoking solutions in response to difficult problems. Five of my most popular presentations are described below:

Presentation 1: Presentation Generation.

2. Demonstrate What You Can Do

In today's multimedia, cyber connected world, it is easier than every to demonstrate what you can do so that people can understand more fully what you are looking for, and more importantly, how you can deliver what your potential employers need. So again to practice what I am preaching, this is a demonstration of what I can do.

3. Show potential employer what others think of you.

Word-of-mouth is a powerful tool. Potential employers want to know what fellow coworkers, customers, and clients think of you. Use your LinkedIn recommendation tool to collect details regarding your capabilities. Below are comments from people who have hired me for various projects or people who have been in my seminars, heard my speech, or commented on my writings:

  • Marben is a super coach and trainer! I first met him when he gave a presentation to a professional group I had joined. I was so impressed with his knowledge of social media technology that I began to follow his blog.
  • Marben is an excellent business coach and partner. He is well-versed in corporate cultures as well as what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur. He has feet-on-the-street know-how about leadership and teamwork.
  • Marben's seminar was fanatic. I wish all seminar leaders were this wonderful

4. Make Certain Potential Employers Know Your Skill Set

I coach my job-search clients to design resumes with a list of skills that they have mastered. For in reality, employers hire people to fill jobs to solve problems. So your skills, experiences, capabilities, and expertise ar e set of tools that you bring to the table to solve those problems proposed by the job. Again, in an effort to practice what I preach, these are some of the skills I bring to the table in my strategy consulting practice.
