James Nedrud and Sarah Goldberg are both earning rave reviews for their "amazingly limber and heart-wrenching dance work" in Kill Your Boyfriends, which continues its run this weekend.
Why did you decide to work on this project?
JAMES: My last project was working on Pride Films and Plays production of Under a Rainbow Flag. It was an extremely rewarding experience that made me eager to work with the company again.
SARAH: I decided to say yes because saying "no" to my room mate Derek is never easy. I am so glad I said yes, because this turned out to be a beautiful, unapologetic ode to the human body in all it's forms and experiences.
What has made the experience of working on this show unique for you? Stage nudity, the script, dance, etc?
JAMES: This is the first show I have done in which I have no lines or songs and get to express myself purely in a physical manner. It's not only provided a wonderful challenge to convey the story to the audience, but has allowed for a deeper emotional connection with my fellow actor/dancers.
SARAH: The nudity certainly made this experience unique to me. Coming from a dance background, I feel like much of my life has been spent apologizing for my body, it's shape, it's imperfections, despite all the amazing things it can do.
How would you describe Kill Your Boyfriends?
JAMES: It's a beautifully constructed exploration of love, sex and relationships told with provoking dance and music.
SARAH: I have described it as a celebration of our bodies and it's experiences through dance and poetry.
Do you have a favorite part of the show, something that you're excited for audiences to see?
JAMES: I am truly excited for audiences to see the entire show. Each part supports the journey we want to take them on.
SARAH: I am excited for them to hear and see all of it! This whole project has been a labor of love for all involved.
Who should come see Kill Your Boyfriends?
JAMES: I would recommend this show to all as everyone will be able to identify. The originality of Derek Van Barham's work brings a poignance and authenticity that will draw audiences in. Please come experience it!
SARAH: Anybody who wants to thank their body for getting them through all the crazy sh*& that life throws at us all!
