As the Cape emerges from the ever present blanket of snow that covered us this winter, I'm happy to report the return of spring and our monthly eNewsletter! We will be reaching out every month with the latest news from the Foundation and our partners. This month we are highlighting a recent grant along with some departures and additions to our team. If there is a particular area of interest to you, please feel free to contact our new Marketing and Communications Officer, Erin Maker at EMaker@capecodfoundation.org.
Happy Spring!

The Yarmouth Food Pantry
Although spring is finally upon us, the harshness of this winter certainly took a toll on our community. Heavy snow conditions are a nuisance for all, but when you are an hourly worker depending on a paycheck to feed your family, every snow day can quickly turn an already tenuous situation dire. Our local food pantries are the first line of defense for many, filling a vital community need and putting food on tables that may otherwise remain barren. The Cape Cod Foundation recently announced a $5,000 grant award from its Jesse and Juanita Grimes Fund for Humanitarian Services to The Yarmouth Food Pantry to renovate their existing space, increasing accessibility and efficiencies to better serve its ballooning population. The Foundation's Grants Committee cited their desire to address an overwhelming community need and affect real change. It's important to remember that hunger doesn't stop when the sun comes out. Our local food pantries are in need of donations year round. Whether giving of food or your time, it is always appreciated by our neighbors in need.

Jari Rapaport Retires from Grants Committee
|
Jari Rapaport moved to Eastham full time in 1994, after years of summering in South Welfleet. Back home in New York, Jari had served as the Director of Advocacy for Family Services of Westchester, Inc. Having lived a life based in service to others, she recognized the best way to get to know her new community was to get involved. After hearing a representative of The Cape Cod Foundation speak at her local church in the mid-1990s, Jari quickly reached out and became a stalwart supporter of the Foundation.
Jari served on The Foundation's Grants Committee for the past 20 years, only recently stepping down in December 2014. Her commitment to the grants process was noted and admired by all of the staff. "Jari always knew each proposal inside and out by the time we sat down as a committee in review," noted program officer Dara Bryan. "She took the responsibility seriously, knowing that a grant from the Foundation often served as an endorsement, inspiring further funding by other organizations."
Serving on any committee for that length of time is a feat in itself, but when asked why she felt compelled to stay, Jari deflected any praise, commenting it was the best way she knew how to keep current with her community. Jari has shared her talents with a number of Cape organizations over the years. Serving on the Board of the Community Development Partnership for over 20 years, Jari was awarded their Gwen Pelletier Award for Excellence in Community Service in 2010. She is a proud member of the League of Women Voters and has served on the Town of Eastham's Human Services Advisory Committee.
Please join us in thanking Jari for her years of committed service to our Cape community. May we all be so lucky to have a supporter like Jari Rapaport in our ranks!
