Hello Shipmates,

Hope everyone is doing fine this winter.

The weather seems to be so changeable from very cold with snow, then a spell of rain, with temperatures in the 40's, then icy, slippery and cold again.  Oh my, come on spring and summer.

Capt. Doug is spending some time at the Shipyard "inner" (warm?) shop.

The windows on our 1992 building need work on the window sills, the paint and glazing.  The building near the Heritage berth is also in need of window work.  He spends several mornings each week scraping and puttying before and after coffee break.

We love this Lobster Island Map that Betty & Ralph gave to us.  It seems to have all the right places on it.

Now Capt. Doug will finally know where we're going on Lobster Picnic Day, no more mysteries and indecision.  And now you can feel confident about telling your friends that you visited Lobster Island!

Capt. Linda made this great cake last season to go with our "Schooner-made" ice cream aboard.  It was an instant hit and so much better than the miscellaneous toppings for the ice cream.

Hot Fudge Cake (named by Ben in July 2013)

Mix together:
1 2/3 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. cocoa
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Add and beat until smooth:
1 c. sour milk* or buttermilk
*To make sour milk add 1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar to the milk and stir
1/2 c. vegetable oil
2 tsp. vanilla

Spread in greased 8" x 8" pan.  Do not flour the pan.

Sprinkle over the cake (be generous!):
1/3 c.  cocoa
1/2 c.  brown sugar
3/4 c.  chocolate chips

Just before baking, pour 5/8 c. boiling water over the cake.

Bake at 375 degrees for 20 to 30 minutes until cake seems cooked but is VERY gooey and not burned to the bottom of pan.

Serve hot with vanilla ice cream. Yum! This is sure to be a favorite.

It's time to sign up and reserve your special cabin on your favorite trip.

Shary's in the office waiting for your call.  We are continuing the 10% discount for returning sailors or your 10th trip free. New sailors get a 5% discount.

Doug and Linda plan to be aboard for the 2014 sailing season. The Schooner Heritage is listed with a new broker. We'll keep you posted.

We think of all of you often and all the wonderful times we've had together.

See you this summer,
