It's our busiest time of year as the temperatures in Arizona start to heat up and we look toward summer with highs above a hundred degrees. It's a good problem to have. Everyone is taking advantage of spring fever and enjoying wonderful cross breezes across their homes. Out of state customers are ordering in preparation for when the snow finally leaves and summer makes its way back. We are hard at work with our new plasma machine and taking orders every day.
To add to our feeling of productivity, we have FOUR shows this coming weekend, all over Arizona, so there is sure to be one near you. Come check us out at one of the events near you, and you will touch and see the First Impression difference.
Security has also been a big theme with our customers this year, with families becoming increasingly more vigilant and aware of how to prevent crime happening to them. According to the FBI our country is becoming safer every year and in the past 20 years violent crime has been almost cut in half! However, many cities are experiencing an increase in crime and that's something we strive to protect you from (take a look at crime rates by city in this report released by the FBI). Read on for more information about how you can protect yourself from being a victim of crime and we hope to see you at one of our events this weekend where you can learn more.

Don't be a Victim: 10 Ways to Protect Yourself
There are many simple and affordable ways to keep yourself safe and prevent crime happening to you. Not least of which is to be aware of some simple dangers you might not think about. Below we discuss ten easy things you can do right now to help make the possibility of a crime happening to you or your property less likely. Keep quiet We tend to let too many people know that we are leaving for vacation or going out of town. Our hair dresser, the grocery store clerk, carpet cleaner or someone you run into at the park with your kids are all examples of people you shouldn't tell this sort of information to. Some of us get so excited we post it on Facebook! We have to be mindful of the fact that not everyone is your best friend and isn't always well intentioned. In short, keep quiet about when your house is likely to be empty. Block your entry points The best defense against intrusion is barriers. Fences, a strong front door, security doors and window guards provide the ultimate deterrent and protection. An alarm, while providing a useful deterrent, can only provide homeowners with a signal that a crime is already in progress - too late. With that being said, alarm signs in both the front and back of your home are a good idea since most entry by burglars is done through the back, particularly through a glass sliding door. Fix your doorbell and get a peephole Criminals are increasingly posing as salespeople, casing homes to watching for who is home during the day. They ring the doorbell to see who answers, hoping that nobody will, and that everyone is at school or work. An empty house is inviting and most crooks can get in and out during daylight hours without making a sound. Make sure your doorbell works and use a peephole to check who is outside before answering. Let dogs do what they do naturally If you have a dog, let them bark. A burglar doesn't want to be bitten and will generally avoid a house where there is a chance of that. They also don't want a barking dog to alert the neighbors that there is something amiss. The little "yappy" dogs are a criminal's worst nightmare because they just don't quit. The greater the risk of being caught, the less attractive your home is. Lock all your doors and windows It sounds simple, but career criminals are opportunists and are looking for an open window or door. Make sure all windows and exterior doors are locked and kept closed, especially when you are not home. If your home does not already have window locks, they can be purchased very inexpensively from any home hardware store. Consider installing deadlocks if you don't already have them and use door chains when possible. The harder you make it for an intruder to get in, the less likely you are to experience a crime firsthand. Hide your trash Bought a new big screen TV? Don't advertise it by taking the box out to the curb the night before trash pickup. The bad guys want what you have - and if they can see what you have inside before even setting foot in your home, the incentive to try to get in is much greater because it promises a fat reward. Have the delivery people take the packaging of large or big ticket items or cut up the box into smaller pieces so that expensive purchases are not so obvious. Take valuables out of the master bedroom According to the professionals, the master bedroom is the target of most home invasions and burglaries because that's where many people keep their valuables. The best place to put them? The kitchen, because it's one of the hardest places to get to, usually in the middle of the house, and with too many places to look through to find the treasure. Keep jewelry in a locked safe in a good hiding place so that if you do become the victim of a burglary, the thieves will leave with only the things that they can grab quickly. Trim your landscaping Overgrown bushes and tall plants and trees are a great place for would be intruders to hide. Make sure that landscaping is kept trimmed back from the exterior walls of your house and near doorways, since being kept hidden from the prying eyes of neighbors is exactly what a crook will try to do. If you force a burglar to try to gain entry where he is more likely to be seen, he is less inclined to persist and will move on after about four minutes, studies have shown. Turn on video surveillance even when home Video surveillance is a huge deterrent to criminals - but only if they know it's there. Nobody wants to be caught on camera committing a crime, so make sure that you not only clearly communicate your video surveillance with signs, you also turn it on, even when you are home. Many a crime has been caught and prosecuted with video evidence and this type of equipment is getting cheaper all the time. You can even get apps for your phone that allow you to monitor it from anywhere. Store ladders out of sight Ladders provide an easy way for intruders to get in through the second floor of a home so store your ladders both out of sight and away from the exterior walls of your home. Don't make it easy for someone to target your home. For more tips like this check out our security articles and tips here. See What our Customers are Saying...
"Hello, I am writing to let First Impression know about the excellent employee they have in Eric L. My husband and I had purchased a security door through First Impression and we had July 19th set as our install date. Eric called in the morning of the 19th to let us know he was due to arrive around 9:30am. He arrived on time and went right to work at unloading his truck and began to set up for the installation. During the initial set up, my husband noticed the frame was bent and pointed the defect out to Eric. Eric was very understanding and took pictures of the dented frame and called the service department to see what could be done to fix the problem. He let us know the factory would repair the problem and that he would be back later that afternoon in order to complete the install. He again reloaded all of the materials and tools back into his truck and went back to the factory. Around 3pm, Eric called and let us know that he was on his way with the repaired frame and was ready to install the security door. Eric worked non-stop to complete the install. He always had a smile on his face and was pleasant and friendly despair the heat and humidity. He worked until 9pm and did a BEAUTIFUL job!! I know that Eric had to do extra work due to the defect on the first frame. When he had finished the install, Eric took the time to go over how to care for our door. He was not rushed despite his long day and hard work. Eric patiently answered all our questions. My husband and I appreciate Eric's strong work ethic and hope that he will be recognized by First Impression. We are so happy with our security door and will not hesitate to recommend First Impression Doors for their quality products and hard working employee, Eric L! Thank you!"
