Autistic Son
"Apple," Jamel said. "Boat."
"I started crying," his mother said.
Sometimes one word can be a miracle.
Jamel, who has autism, spoke his first words at five years old. Now eight, he continues to receive key intervention from Kennedy Child Study Center, a Catholic Charities-sponsored agency and acknowledged leader in helping children with special needs.

Fairytales and Real Life Heroes
Impoverished children, many who already understand Cinderella's life far too well, recently acted out a version of this fairytale in "A Native American Cinderella."
The actors, ages 5-12, participate in Catholic Charities Highbridge Gardens Cornerstone Alianza Division, an afterschool program filled with activities that get them off the streets and help them thrive.

Dancing to the Beat; Feeling "Normal"
When Alexy Lopez dances salsa, his multiple sclerosis seems to disappear; his unsteady stride and self-doubt vanish.
"When I dance, I still feel the same," Mr. Lopez, 56, said. "I feel normal."
But the swift onset of symptoms made it impossible for him to continue working.
The New York Times profiles how Catholic Charities provided him with not only help but also hope for the future.

Thank You
A Special Thank You from
Msgr. Kevin Sullivan
I am amazed and humbled by what we can do when we come together to help our neighbors.
Because of you, so far this year's Feeding Our Neighbors campaign has already collected over 400,000 meals for families in need.
With gratitude,
Monsignor Kevin Sullivan
P.S. If you'd like to make a contribution you still can.
