INTRODUCTION TO SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP FOR NON-PROFITS

Tuesday, November 24
10:30 a.m.- 12:00 noon
Monroe Street United Methodist Church -  3613 Monroe Street, Toledo, Ohio
Presented by Sarah Jo Twitchell, PhD, LISW-S

Curious about whether developing a social enterprise would be a good venture for your church or non-profit? Seeking an additional avenue to increase revenue? Join in on this presentation and discussion about when the model works best, the advantages, the challenges, tax-implications, and review some effective projects.

Then, for those who think this is a good match for their organization, we'll have another workshop on December 15 from 1-5 to give participants some tools to start putting a plan together to create earned income revenue through social entrepreneurship.

Sarah Twitchell, Monroe Street UMC member and longtime leader in non-profits, will facilitate the workshops.  Sarah had the chance this summer to attend the Social Enterprise for Nonprofits training from The Grantsmanship Center and is anxious to share what she's learned combined with her research and experience with the Toledo area community.

SYLVANIA FIRST CHANGES BLACK FRIDAY

Black Friday, November 27
10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Sylvania First United Methodist Church, 7000 Erie St., across from Plummer Pool
Sylvania First is revolutionizing Black Friday with a Black Friday Shop for Charity event. The church will serve as a marketplace for vendors who will give a portion of their proceeds for the day to charity.

Black Friday is the traditional start of the Christmas buying frenzy, which can overshadow the good news of Jesus's birth. By purchasing presents at the Black Friday Shop for Charity, shoppers can give two gifts with each purchase - each gift for a loved one is also a gift to a non-profit organization. Each vendor has already chosen a non-profit or charity, and this will be clearly noted at their table. Shoppers can browse by charity as well as by gift item.

A BLUES CHRISTMAS

Friday, December 4th
7:30 p.m.
Maumee UMC Family Life Center

Imagine the sounds of Christmas as Blues, Classic Rock and Roll and Folk music. The 3rd Floor Band tells the story of the first Christmas in a unique presentation that varies from deep soulful sounds to light rock. Meet the characters of the Christmas story and hear their stories through many original lyrics set to familiar tunes of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Sam and Dave, Peter Paul and Mary, The Animals and more, including some original tunes.

The 3rd Floor Band is a classic five piece band that specializes in sharing the love of God through secular sounds. Vocals include tight three part harmonies. Band members Dave Harris, Mary Fry, Bob Fry, Toby Colbert and Bill Clinger are all old enough to remember when and young enough to still remember. Come for a fun, meaningful and inspiring experience of Christmas.
