The United Methodist  Church

Greetings!
Kids enjoy Back 2 School at Hayes Memorial
Sheri Trusty

Hayes Memorial United Methodist Church hosted a Back 2 School Bash on Saturday evening.

"We just wanted to invite people from the community into our church and let them know everyone is welcome here anytime," the Rev. Alan Brown said. "Our goal was just to say, 'we'll try it.' We wanted to provide a nice evening of family fun for free."

Henderson Settlement House Blessing

This summer we have been blessed to have the opportunity to have two homes built.  The first one was built in the spring and the blessing held in June.  The second home was finished last week and the house blessing held Thursday. Wayne and Katherine are huge supporters and volunteers at the Settlement.  Katherine is always willing to lend a hand, whether in the greenhouses, thrift store, or food pantry.  They are so excited to be moving into their new home.  Thank you to everyone who makes the work camp ministry a success.  Thanks for your support, prayers, donations, time, and sweat on all of our work camp projects. We couldn't do it without you! Check out the S.O.W.E.R. Project and Henderson Settlement.

Youth Leaders!

Next summer the United Methodist students from around thenation are gathering for YOUTH 2015, June 24-28, 2015 in Orlando, Florida! This is an incredible opportunity to ignite passion in your youth group and to connect with other students from around the nation.

If you are wavering or if you're wondering if YOUTH 2015 is going to be worth the time and resources, the GBOD (General Board of Discipleship) has created 2014: Go On Tour. Two locations in every jurisdiction have been selected as a tour site.

Pilgrimage to the Holy Land

January 16-25, 2015

$2,997

Lead by Dr. Larry Clark in conjunction with the Society Biblical Studies

There are many groups that offer tours of the Holy Land.  However, the Society for Biblical Studies is committed to the highest standard by practicing socially responsible travel and providing quality Biblical and archeological interpretation.  The mission of the Society for Biblical Studies is to reform Biblical scholarship, to redeem pilgrimage from commercial sightseeing, to renew the mission of the Church.

You are invited to deepen your faith as you explore the land of the Bible.  The stories will come alive.

Dr. Clark is pastor of Sylvania First United Methodist Church.  He is joining the faculty of the Society for Biblical Studies after 30 years of travel and study in the Holy Land, Turkey, Greece and Italy. He has a Ph.D. in Sociology of Conflict which provides him with a unique perspective on events in the Middle East, in addition to the Biblical story. You may contact him at lclark@sylvaniafirst.org for further information.
