A Reception for Rev. Marla Brown

A Reception on Sunday, June 1st from 3-5 PM at Church of the Cross, 1750 Eastgate Rd. Toledo.

Rev. Marla Brown has faithfully served the Maumee Watershed District as its Superintendent for six years.  We have come to know her as Spiritual leader, disciple, and friend.  Marla has made a tremendous impact on our lives, churches, District, and the Kingdom of God.

Marla will be retiring this June at Annual Conference.

We hope you will all come to this informal gathering and share in the opportunity to bring Marla a card and wish her a wonderful journey with Christ into her retirement journey.

Rural Ministry Support
WO-UMRA Vital Town and Country Churches Chosen

The mission of the West Ohio United Methodist Rural Advocates is to: "Inspire... Celebrate... Give Voice to... rural and smaller membership churches in rural communities."

Along these lines the WO-UMRA William B. Murray Vital Town and Country Church Award was developed. Through this award, we celebrate churches in the West Ohio Conference which have demonstrated their love for Christ and community through worship, hospitality, outreach/missions and faith development.

We were excited this year to receive nominations from almost every district either through individual nominations or the District Superintendents. Each of the District recipients will receive $500 to use for a mission/outreach project of their choice. This year's recipients are:

Magnetic Springs United Methodist Church

(Capital Area North District)

Tarlton-South Perry Charge

(Foothills District)

Liberty Center United Methodist Church

(Maumee Watershed District)

New Hope United Methodist Church in Shelby County

(Miami Valley District)

Lafayette 1st United Methodist Church

(Northwest Plains District)

New Vienna United Methodist Church

(Ohio River Valley District)

In addition, we have chosen South Webster Christ UMC

(Shawnee Valley) as the overall smaller congregation vital church. They will receive the WO-UMRA William B. Murray Vital Town and Country Church Award and $1,000 to use for a mission/outreach project of their choice.  Presentation of the award will be made at Annual Conference by Bishop Palmer.

We will also celebrate all these churches at Rural Advocates Annual Banquet on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 from noon until 1:30 pm in the Chautauqua Room at Hotel Lakeside during Annual Conference at Lakeside.

Each church has been asked to describe one of their best programs and that will be shared at the luncheon. This will be a great platform for getting and sharing ideas. Also, we will provide more information about our organization and how we are working to help the rural and small town churches. We invite everyone to join us. For more information or to find reservation information, please visit our website.
