2014 WOC Historian of the Year and Church Anniversaries

One of the duties of the West Ohio Conference Commission on Archives and History is to assist local churches in preserving their records, compiling their history and celebrating their heritage.  We do this in partnership with the United Methodist Historical Society of Ohio (UMHSO). Annually, the UMHSO recognizes the Local Church Historian of the Year and churches celebrating significant anniversaries in both the East and West Ohio Conferences. The conference commissions are responsible for gathering nominations for the historian of the year award and the church anniversaries.

The Historian of the Year and  church anniversaries will be recognized at the Annual Meeting and History Convocation of the UMHSO on April 26, 2014 at Grace United Methodist Church in Delaware OH. At that time, the UMHSO will recognize the Historian of the Year for each conference   and also recognize churches of both conference which are celebrating significant anniversaries (100 years or more, in 25 year increments.

Historian of the Year

Criteria for Historian of the Year are on the UMHSO website at www.umhso.org.  Nominations, including rationale and supporting material, are to be sent to the address below. The deadline for nominations is March 1, 2014.  All nominees will receive a certificate. The winner will receive  a plaque.

Church Anniversaries

If your church is celebrating a significant anniversary in 2012 (100, 125, 150, 175, or 200 years,) please send that information to me at jbarbee01@insight.rr.com or to the address below, The deadline for receiving church anniversary notification is March 30, 2014. Each church will receive a certificate recognizing its anniversary.

Town and Rural Resource Program invites you to:
The Changing Face of Town & Country Ministry:
MAKING IT WORK!
at two locations: Harmony UMC, Tiffin (EOC) &
Delta UMC, Delta (WOC)
Sat. March 8th, Tiffin
Sun. March 9th, Delta
The reality is-there has been a change in rural ministry in our lifetime. What worked previously, no long-er works today. It is important we understand these changes and their implications for ministry.
Rev. Ed Kail is an outstanding teacher and trainer with his focus on small membership churches, especially in the town & country and rural areas.
He has seen our denomination decline, and the way we think about God, the Church, and ourselves may be contributing to that decline-so is revitalization possible?
If you want to renew and revitalize your church, be sure to bring a team! Click here for more information.
