Dear CGS Parent, |
In this Sunday's Gospel, Jesus says,
"I am the vine, you are the branches.
Whoever remains in me and I in him
will bear much fruit"
The word "remain" is repeated eight times in Sunday's passage. It must be important!
Especially as our catechetical year winds down, it is a good time for the whole family to celebrate mass together and consider the invitation to "remain."
How do we remain on the vine? Two very important ways are prayer and service. And luckily, these are both things we can do easily and joyfully while building community and friendships within St. Teresa of Avila. (... Knowing, of course, that there are countless ways and places we can pray and serve.)
Please read the articles below which welcome you to pray in community ...
- May 3rd Children's Participation Mass at 9AM
- June 21st Church Blessing Mass at 10AM
... and serve in community:
- Refreshment Hosting after 9AM Mass - Consider just one Sunday this summer!
- Saturday Food Pantry 9-11AM - Consider just one Saturday this summer!
- June 20th GCFD Hunger Walk - We get food pantry funding for every walker with zero cost to you!
Even as the catechetical year winds down (two weeks left), let us remain together!
Peace, Lina Hilko, Editor |

Children's Participation Mass - May 3rd, 9AM
| One of the most important ways we grow in relationship with God is through the celebration of mass. Our next Children's Participation Mass is this Sunday, May 3rd at 9:00AM. Please come celebrate in community and encourage your child to serve at the mass. We need greeters, collection ushers, and gift bearers. Email Kate Lynch at kolynchdre@gmail.com to express your interest.

Church Blessing Mass - June 21st, 10AM
| Join us on Sunday, June 21st at a special 10:00AM mass (note: we are combining the 9AM and Noon masses) as we formally celebrate with Bishop Kane the completion of our church renovation and continue our celebration of our 125th anniversary as a parish. Mass will be followed by a BBQ, open house tours, and family friendly activities.

Hosting Refreshments after 9AM Mass
|
If you enjoy lingering after the 9AM mass, please consider hosting just one Sunday this summer. We are now scheduling for June through September. Hosts bring treats and juice. Coffee and supplies are provided by the church. We truly need at least a few new families to try this out in order to cover the summer.
Host families wash dishes afterward! Based on the First Communion children's recent enthusiasm toward bread baking and dish washing, this would seem a perfect way for a family to support the parish!

Saturday Food Pantry, 9-11AM
|
St. Teresa's provides much-needed groceries all summer long. We serve an average of about 130 guests each week! Our needs continue strong even when our parishioners disperse on vacations and summer outings.
Working at Food Pantry is a high-energy, hands-on way for children, together with their parent, to meet the very real Chicagoans - from singles to working families to retirees - who need this bit of help to make ends meet.
Browse for openings on the VolunteerSpot link http://vols.pt/AFsRya and consider working one Saturday this summer. No obligation to take a look. If you do pick a date, be sure to click the green "Save" button. And if your summer plans change, you can "un-sign-up" ... but please try to give a few days' notice.

GCFD Hunger Walk on Saturday, June 20
|
You can help us buy food from the Greater Chicago Food Depository just by walking (for FREE!) on Saturday, June 20th. This is a fun, easy 3 mile walk starting at 8:30am from Soldier Field (free parking; done by around 10:30AM). Our goals are to bring greater awareness of the need to feed the hungry AND to create funding for our Food Pantry.
There is no cost to participate. For every adult or child on our team (any age; even in a stroller or Baby Bjorn), we get $12 to spend on food at the GCFD. $12 fills 4 bags for our Food Pantry!
St. Teresa is proud to have been accepted in 2013 as a partner of the Greater Chicago Food Depository after about a year and a half of working toward that goal. In each of the past two Hunger Walks, our efforts have provided funding for about 6 months of Food Pantry food. This year, we have expanded our GCFD relationship to cover Loaves & Fishes dinner ingredients, as well. Everyone's help is crucial.
For now, save the date. And stay tuned for how to register under team St. Teresa!
