The Voyage of the Eagle

Dear CVCHS Staff, Parents and Community Members,

It is the Governing Board's and my privilege to introduce our new Principal for Clayton Valley Charter High School, Mr. Jeff Eben. After a rigorous search to fill the position, Eben has been chosen and will serve as Principal starting on July 1.

A seasoned educator, Jeff Eben earned his degree and teaching credential from Fresno State University.  He has enjoyed a 30-year career in public education that includes administration, teaching, and coaching.   As the founding Principal of Clovis-East High School, located in the Fresno region, Jeff Eben was credited with the school's national recognition for academics as well as athletics.  In 2006, he was inducted into the Clovis Hall of Fame for Lifetime Achievement in Education.

Seeking to further his natural ability to work with underprivileged youth, Jeff Eben spent time in Racine, Wisconsin where he was widely applauded for bringing a culture shift to a consistently, under-performing urban high school.  His work there earned him the Distinguished Educator Award presented by Phil Delta Kappa in 2013.

"We are excited to select Jeff Eben as the new Principal at Clayton Valley," said Ted Meriam, Governing Board Chair. "I cannot imagine a better outcome for our school community.  Jeff comes with a wealth of experience and is committed to the wellbeing of our students and their academic success."

As a motivational author and speaker, Jeff Eben has traveled throughout the United States and internationally speaking on key issues of leadership, building positive school cultures, and overcoming challenges.   He has written three books including his acclaimed autobiography, "How Many Wins Have YOU Had Today?"  His powerful story and unique philosophy of "Feel the Love" have impacted students, teachers, parents and community members alike.

I am confident you will appreciate his enthusiasm, sense of humor, and compassion for students!

It is my great honor to serve CVCHS in the dual role as the founding Executive Director and High School Principal, wearing the many hats of district superintendent along with assistant superintendent of human resources, business services, instructional services, information services and student services.

The announcement of Jeff Eben as the new Principal will transition some of the site administrative responsibilities currently handled by myself.  The Governing Board reclassified an unfilled administrative position to that of Principal in order to increase support for our teaching staff and students.  Fiscally, the hiring of a Principal will have a minimal impact since CVCHS is replacing a Director position with the Principal position.

"I am very pleased to have the opportunity to work with the students and staff of Clayton Valley Charter High School," said Eben.  "My recent conversations on campus left me impressed with the dedicated staff, supportive parent community, and great school spirit at Clayton Valley.  I look forward to working with Dave Linzey as we continue to build a positive and productive experience on behalf of students and to leading the continued development of an exceptional school."

As Executive Director, I am excited Jeff has joined our administrative team as we further our joint goal to create a world-class education for our students.  Through our collective efforts, we are now able to concentrate our focused talents on students and staff, as well as the district level duties that are essential to supporting large charter schools.  We are fortunate to have Jeff Eben join us, as he has so much to offer our school community.

Please join me in giving Jeff Eben a warm welcome to our CVCHS family!
