Time is running out - End of Life for V5R4

Effective September 13, 2013,  you will no longer be able to call IBM for software defect support with problems for IBM i operating system nor any of the IBM licensed programs.  Operating business critical applications on a supported OS release is, for many customers, an audit or compliance requirement.  While this notification gives users ample time to upgrade to current supported releases of IBM i, V6R1 or V7R1, nonetheless it is time to

take action and make a plan to upgrade because of possible changes needed to ISV software or hardware.

Section 179

Section 179 has been enhanced for *both* 2012 and 2013 tax years (2012 is retroactive, obviously). This is due to the passage of H.R.8: American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 (The "fiscal cliff / fiscal crisis" bill).

2013 Deduction Limit = $500,000

2013 Limit on Capital Purchases = $2,000,000

2013 Bonus Depreciation = 50%

Please note the above limits are as of 1/1/2013, and are for tax year 2013. In addition, 2012's old limit ($125,000 deduction) has now been raised to $500,000 as well. This means qualifying purchases you made in 2012 can now take advantage of the new, higher deduction limits.

Please Note:

Section 179 Deduction is available for most new and used capital equipment, and also includes certain software.

Bonus Depreciation can be taken on new equipment only (no used equipment, no software)

When applying these provisions, Section 179 is generally taken first, followed by Bonus Depreciation - unless the business has no taxable profit in the given tax year.

Business Operations Review

We've found that most organizations are not realizing the full benefits of their current technology investments. Our Business Operations Review is a great first step to ensuring your organization has the right infrastructure (People, Process and Technology) in place to help achieve the organization's growth objectives.  If you respond yes to more than half these items, then let MCS show you how these areas can be improved.  The first three companies that register for our Business Operations Review will receive it for free.

  • Issues that are affecting the organization to meet revenue objectives
  • Features in the existing software not being utilized
  • Manual processes that could be automated or eliminated
  • Activities that provide no value
  • New processes or controls that should be put in place to manage particular functions
  • Information (data) requirements not being captured but needed by the organization
  • Software modifications needed to address unique business requirements
  • Software modifications no longer necessary with newer versions of software
  • Training needed for specific applications and/or departments
  • Short term quick fixes that can have immediate impact
  • Long term business improvement projects
