I admit when I've rung your doorbell and I'm waiting for the door to open, the little voices in my head (yes, they are there al-l-l-l the time) are chattering away. "I hope there's a dining room calling for a medallion....I hope when they said a little detailing in the foyer, it really meant a full scale mural complete with lions and tigers and bears, oh my." Oh, I could go on. But those are the voices in MY head.
What about the questions rolling around in my client's head? "What made me even call her? This is going to be too expensive. What was I thinking-I'm sure she will think this project is too small."
So, the truth . I love those big, extensive, multi-room contracts. But there is huge satisfaction in small, one or two day jobs that result in a great impact. Those are equally as rewarding.
Case in point. A recent client called and our discussion quickly got to whether it was too small a job; might I be interested? Definitely, I was.
The space was a backsplash behind a stove. It needed something. A painted tile mural was not what she had in mind. She pointed to the carpet on the floor and said she loved the design. Inspiration! Take a look.
I took a picture and then sketched this out so she could visualize the painting.
After that, making it happen was easy. I made a pattern at home so I wouldn't have to sketch on the tumbled marble and get charcoal all over.
I traced out the design and basecoated in a solid color.
I chose a subtle palette to complement the tiles. Here's the finished backsplash.

Seal and topcoat and away I go!! My client was delighted and I was glad to have found such a perfect solution for her.
Before I leave you this month, I'd be remiss not to share the lovely feedback I received about my project last month at Fairfield Woods School in Fairfield, CT. I heard from former teachers , students and parents of former students. Kudos to the school staff, past and present. There is a legacy of the best educators can offer that was established at this school years ago and continues today.
