| Gross Catholic High School |
Greetings!
A family emergency kept me away from the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony and I regret, so much, I was unable to be there. I would like to take a moment to offer my congratulations to all of the members of the National Honor Society. I am certainly proud of your accomplishments and feel so blessed that you are our students here at Gross Catholic.
My congratulations also to your families. It does take a village to raise a child and we are so happy we are able to partner with you in the formation of these fine young people.
My congratulations and thanks to our faculty and staff who have dedicated their lives to the mission of Catholic education. Induction into the National Honor Society is truly a reward for everyone's hard work and sacrifice.
Finally, I have always known that the love and support of family and friends during times of celebration and also in times of trouble is an absolute blessing. That is why I love Gross Catholic.
Blessings to all of you,
Dr. Dorothy Ostrowski President

As the days get longer, the snow starts to melt, and signs of spring start to show, it is important to remember that there are still three months in the school year. Teachers continue to prepare good lessons, students are working hard, and learning is always going on at Gross Catholic High School. Seniors are seeing the end of a high school career and want to wrap it up early. This is a time in the school year when students may tend to let their spring fever get the best of them and grades may slip. This is a time when students need to make that final push through to the end of the year. It is important that students continue to work hard and learn all the way through May.
Our staff continues to work hard to improve our instructional strategies to provide students with a college preparatory education. The staff at Gross Catholic started the year off talking about objectives. Setting learning objectives has been proven to be one of the most important strategy to use when starting a lesson. This strategy helps students understand what key concepts or skills they are should have at the end of a lesson. The objective should be specific enough to give students a clear idea of what is to be learned during the lesson but not describe a specific learning activity. It should be broad enough to allow for different learning styles and different student outcomes. We are working to make sure students know what the expected learning outcome is for a specific lesson. Setting learning objectives is a great way to make sure students are engaged in learning and are aware of what they are supposed to be learning.
Sincerely,
John Schultz
Principal

Campus Ministry
Junior Class Service Retreats
The Campus Ministry office would like to extend a thank-you to Educare Indian Hills, Reruns r Fun, and Mosiac for opening their doors to our junior students as they engaged in service. Our students were provided the opportunity to see first hand the various needs, both financial and emotional, in our community.
Lenten SeasonThe church asks us to make sacrifices during Lent as a way of letting God into our lives. By denying ourselves something or adding something to our routine, we are making a space in our life that the Lord can fill. Ideally whatever we do as a Lenten sacrifice should be something we continue, even when Lent is over. Campus Ministry has provided students with various activities this Lenten season to assist them on their Lenten journey. We are called to three types of activity in the season of Lent: fasting, prayer, and almsgiving.
A prayer experience like retreat is a fantastic Lenten activity. Juniors and seniors are encouraged to attend a TEC retreat. Not only would this experience provide students the opportunity to grow in their faith and their knowledge of themselves, but they will also meet new friends. TEC provides students the chance for prayer and, in a sense, the opportunity to abstain from their normal social life for a weekend. The next TEC is March 15-17. Applications are available on the office counter or at the Archdiocese of Omaha website.
Students are also invited to mini-retreats each Friday during lunch. We will explore various themes like God's love for us, how to improve our relationship with God, and how Good Friday redeems and saves us. Our prayer experiences are creative and interactive. Those who come regularly to our lunch meetings are invited to make a pilgrimage to the Cathedral on March 15. Finally, as a school we are engaged in almsgiving to Project Rachel. Students have been asked to examine their conscience and to reflect on those times that they have made rash, implusive decisions that they later regretted. This self-reflection is helpful in understanding the need for organizations like Project Rachel which helps those suffering the physical, emotional, and spiritual aftermath of an abortion.
On behalf of the Gross Catholic faculty and staff, we would like to wish you a prayerful Lenten season.
