Greetings!
Characteristics of Marianist Education
* Educate for formation in faith
* Educate in family spirit * Provide an integral, quality education * Educate for service, justice and peace * Educate for adaptation and change
As I write this newsletter, we have just concluded Founder's Week and we are in the midst of Catholic Schools Week. What a great opportunity to celebrate the foundation on which our school is built!
As a Marianist school, all of us here at Gross Catholic understand the significance of our Marianist heritage. We understand what the Marianist tradition brings to us. We understand how that heritage and tradition defines who we are and provides us with the framework for all we do. We are grateful for this strong foundation and we are committed to fulfilling the characteristics of Marianist education and the mission of our Marianist founder, Blessed William Joseph Chaminade.
It is quite evident that all of us at Gross Catholic are united and sustained by our spiritual foundation and our mission. We pride ourselves in our excellent academic programs and our successful co-curriculars, but it is our spiritual dimension that is most important.
Our mission is tied to the global mission of the Catholic Church. It is our mission to develop leaders within our faith-based community. We strive to develop not simply business or political leaders, but more importantly, servant leaders who understand their obligation to serve others and their obligation to spread God's word.
Catholic schools make a significant difference because our students make a difference in the world. Our students are nurtured and grow in our community and then become active members of the larger community reaching all corners of the world. We help students clearly understand their limitless potential and the gifts they have been given. We help students to understand the essence of true leadership --- their obligation to give to others and to serve others.
Catholic Schools Week and Founder's Week celebrates our mission and provides us with the opportunity to thank all the members of our community who are a part of us and support us. How blessed we are to be members of this Cougar family, the Marianist family, and the family of the Catholic Church!
Blessings,
Dr. Dorothy Ostrowski President |

The school year seems to be moving along quickly. Students are competing in our winter sports, academic decathlon, speech and robotics. They are practicing for our spring play, and preparing for music contests and concerts and engineering competitions. Our Students are involved in many co- curricular and extracurricular activities this winter. All these activities on top of a rigorous academic program help to make the year go by very quickly.
In addition to all the activity, we are starting to plan for the 2013-14 school year. We have put together our course offerings and all of our registration materials for the upcoming registration process. Packets have been assembled and will be distributed to advisement teachers. Students will begin registration for 2013-14 on Monday February 4th. It is our hope that students and parents choose courses that will push students to achieve at the highest academic level possible. We have made some changes to the academic offerings next year. Please be sure to look at the course guide on the website and go over your student's course selections before they register. We anticipate a great second semester and look forward to planning for the 2013-14 school year.
Sincerely,
John Schultz Principal

 Global Outreach Catholic Exchange Program
Global Outreach is a program in which high school students from Eastern Europe come to the United States to refine their English language and servant leadership skills as well as experience a year in a Catholic high school with an active Catholic family. The GO program in Omaha currently needs host families for the 2013 - 2014 school year for GO students who will attend Gross Catholic. Host families provide a loving family for a student for the school year, but are not responsible for tuition and book expenses. This year, Craig and Chris Johanek-Boro are hosting Betti Toth from Hungary; Roy and Diane Kuncl are hosting Marek Pivoad from the Czech Republic.
For more information, click here or if you are interested in hosting a student or have questions, you can contact Chris and Craig (402-556-1554) or Sister Marie Alice Ostry (402-614-0177). http://globaloutreachprogram.com

We have been blessed through the years with a number of religious vocations and have two men currently studying for the priesthood with the Archdiocese of Omaha. Please continue to pray for more Cougars to answer the call. Sister Mary Helen is the next Cougar alumni featured!
