FUNTOWN USA HOSTING THOUSANDS OF MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO LEARN PHYSICS

Saco, Maine - On Thursday May 19 and Friday May 20, nearly 2,000 middle and high school students from Maine and New Hampshire will move from the classroom to the amusement park to learn more about the principles of physics.

"On Physics Day, Funtown USA transforms from a regular amusement park to a giant physics lab, with the next generation of scientists collecting and analyzing data from the park's rides", said Ed Hodgdon, the park's marketing manager. "Students learn about momentum on the Grand Prix Racers, velocity on the Astrosphere, and G-forces on the Dragon's Descent."

"This isn't just another day at Funtown. Students are taking concepts learned in the classroom and seeing how they apply to the thrill rides," said Cory Hutchinson, Funtown's general manager. "Getting students exciting about science, technology, engineering, and math is what this day is all about."

The University of Maine Physics Department will be bringing their 'Mainely Physics Road Show' with professors and graduate students on hand to assist students and teachers with the park's curriculum.

Steve DeAngelis of Maranacook Community High School in Readfield, Maine brings a group of students to Physics Day every year. According to DeAngelis, "The Physics Day experience is both fun and extremely educational for my students, not to mention motivational." This year, nearly 100 students will be attending from Maranacook.

Over 40 schools will participating in the educational program that will developed in conjunction with high school teachers, and the faculties of the University of Maine and the University of New England. The park will be closed to the general public on both days and a limited number of rides will be open.
