Educating today for the future
Getting kids ready to lead
Happy Constitution Day! Students across the nation are learning about the United States Constitution. At GenerationNation, we believe that every day is an opportunity to boost civic literacy!

It's been nearly 2 years since GenerationNation was introduced. We then moved into a fast-paced 2012 focused on helping students make the most of the educational opportunities presented by the national convention held here in Charlotte as well as the presidential election.

A name change marks an exciting future - and in 2013 it does so more than ever for GenerationNation.

You make all the difference as GenerationNation enters the next phase of our work as THE champion for K-12 civic education and youth civic leadership.

What's ahead? Our 2013-14 programs (click or scroll down) include launching Charlotte-Mecklenburg's new youth council plus offering educational tools and hands-on activities to help thousands of K-12 students explore civics and leadership in action.

How can you help? (click or scroll down) As we introduce and expand programming, your support helps us to build on our already strong foundation.

Please visit our website and connect with us on social media (click or scroll down) to explore all of the latest opportunities and, most importantly, witness the impact your involvement and support through student voices and activities.

Students will one day be the leaders of our schools, communities and nation. What, and how, they learn now matters. Thank you for helping GenerationNation to get students ready to lead.

Youth Civic Leadership
One of the exciting programs we'll kick off in 2013-14 is the Youth Leadership Alliance, a youth council in partnership with the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

This important civic leadership initiative connects a diverse group of high school students with public officials, business leaders, and media to collaborate in civic problem-solving and prepare young people for success in college, the workplace and community life.

As part of the youth council, student journalists will report on local government, issues, leaders and more. They're already getting started with a student candidate guide for election 2013.

Civics in Action
In addition to the youth council, GenerationNation's impactful programs include K-12 civic education with standards-based resources and tools for 5,000 area classrooms and hands-on activities that enable students to experience civics and leadership in action. In 2012-13, over 100,000 local children and youth participated in programs including Youth Civics and Kids Voting.

Our reach goes beyond the city too - we're collaborating with organizations such as Civic Education Consortium, National Youth Leadership Council, Student Voice, Mikva Challenge, National Action Civics Collaborative and others to share curriculum, learning opportunities, best practices, and more.
