SNAP Eligibility GuideThe new federal fiscal year brought small adjustments to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) eligibility and benefits. The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities updated their quick guide reviewing SNAP eligibility and benefit calculation rules.

 

Your Community's Poverty Rate: Half in Ten has created a searchable website which enables you to find out the poverty rate in each congressional district.

 

State TANF Rules: How have welfare rules changed over time in particular states? How do rules in different states compare? This publication uses data from the Welfare Rules Database to provide tables containing key Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) policies for each state.  

 

TANF Subsidized Employment Guidance: HHS has released a new guidance in the form of FAQs on TANF subsidized employment. It includes helpful guidance on serving foster youth. Access it here.

 

Government Spending Addressing Child Abuse and Neglect: Child Trends released a report Federal, State, and Local Spending to Address Child Abuse and Neglect in SFY 2012. The bi-annual survey found that child welfare agency expenditures from federal, state, and local sources decreased by eight percent between state fiscal years 2010 and 2012-representing the first decrease in spending that has been found since the survey began in 1996. Numerous state-by-state charts may be found beginning on page 53 of the report. In addition, federal spending on child welfare declined, and was found to be at its lowest level since the state fiscal year 1998 survey. State-by-state data are also available for viewing/downloading on the State Child Welfare Policy Database.

 

Improving Educational Stability for Youth in Foster Care: A new report from the Annie E. Casey Foundation details progress made in educational stability for youth in foster care since the 2008 passage of Fostering Connections and the challenges still to be overcome.

 
WIOA Resource: The Center for Law and Social Policy has prepared a comprehensive summary of the provisions in the new Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.
 
Homelessness Resources: The U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) has created a database on efforts to end homelessness from federal, state, and local partners around the country. The database includes resources on exemplary programs and promising practices. Click here to access it.

Child Welfare Workforce Webinar: The National Child Welfare Workforce Institute (NCWWI) will be presenting a free webinar on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 3 p.m.-4:30 p.m. (ET). It will be the first session in a national webinar series designed to "mind the gap" and address workforce challenges impacting child welfare organizations across the country. The first session will introduce NCWWI's newly developed Workforce Development Framework (WDF), and its practical application for the field, including key steps in the workforce development assessment and planning process, and core components reflecting multiple workforce development strategies. Differential Response Conference Next Month: The Kempe Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect at the University of Colorado Denver will hold its 9th Annual Conference on Differential Response in Child Welfare on Nov. 12-14, 2014 in Seattle, WA. The conference theme, Family & Community Engagement: The Keys to Child Safety, will explore engaging families and communities in child safety. Communities representing all of the variations of DR implementation (as well as those not yet implementing DR or those considering it) across the child welfare continuum are encouraged to participate.
