Happy New Year NACHSA Members! |
Two helpful fiscal cliff updates came across my screen this morning.
The National Association of Counties has released a seven-page analysis of the county perspective of the budget deal. It may be accessed here.
The Washington Post has posted a bar chart demonstrating how the negotiations progressed. It shows how the 'grand bargain' became small by the end of the process. Of particular note is how most spending cuts and entitlement reforms were taken off the table. Republicans contend that the the revenue side of deficit reduction was completed in the recent budget talks, leaving the entire focus of future budget negotiations on spending reductions. Under the fiscal cliff agreement, the 8.2% across-the-board cuts would now occur on March 1, at about the same time the U.S. would default on its debt if the borrowing limit is not increased.
NACHSA Dues Are Due! And, with the new year, NACHSA 2013 dues are due. This is the ninth consecutive year that NACHSA's dues have been frozen. Click here to access the dues letter highlighting NACHSA's efforts in 2012 and the form itself. |
