| United Way of Tompkins County (UWTC) has established a Financial Stability Fund that will assist at-risk young adults and their children achieve financial stability by eliminating barriers to employment. The initial goal is to raise $25,000 and assist between 30-35 young adults this year.

UWTC Awards $8,100 in Grants
| The United Way of Tompkins County awarded $8,100 in grants in the last few months. In late March, United Way of Tompkins County, through a partnership with the Regional Volunteer Center of the Southern Tier, awarded $2,350 in grants to local organizations for volunteer projects during National Volunteer Week, April 6-12. These projects celebrate volunteering through community service, volunteer recognition, and education. Link

| Photo credit: Nancy Doolittle | of New York State's Volunteer Generation initiative, in mid-January UWTC and the Regional Volunteer Center of the Southern Tier awarded $5,000 in grants to local organizations participating in events during the week of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. $1,250 in funding was awarded to organizations serving Tompkins County.
On December 10, 2013,the Executive Committee of United Way of Tompkins County approved $4,500 in emergency grants to eight local food pantries and one community meal site. These dollars helped food providers purchase supplies through the end of the year. Link

UWTC Focus Grants
| UWTC is now accepting applications for Focus on Community Understanding Service (FOCUS). This year, the FOCUS program is helping Dryden Middle School students develop leadership skills and learn about their community by reviewing grants from local groups. Thanks to funding from the Dryden Youth Opportunity Fund and the Cornell Student United Way the students have $2,500 to award to programs benefiting the Dryden Community. Applications are due on April 15.
