Deacon Bob To Retire
Sunday, August 21
Deacon Bob Millott has served as our parish deacon for the last four years.  He will retire on Sunday 21 August and we will have a reception to honor his service and ministry following the 10:00 Mass.  Canon law requires that all clergy retire from their active ministry as they reach the mandatory age of retirement (72).
So please join us on Sunday, 21 August as we celebrate Bob's ministry with us and wish he and Diane both Godspeed and our love.  Archdeacon Carole Maddox will be with us that Sunday to help us celebrate Bob's ministry and give thanks to God for all that he has shared with us these last four years.
Audrey Gagnon Joins Episcopal Service Corps
Sunday, August 14
Audry Gagnon will be moving to Baltimore, Maryland next week to Join Episcopal Service Corps. ESC is a yearlong program that challenges adults ages 21-30 to respond to the needs of the world through a year of service. The communities are marked by young adults serving others in solidarity, promoting justice in community, and deepening spiritual awareness, vocational discernment, and professional development, while living in intentional community. Audry will be serving with the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland, where she will be the intern for mission. She will be working with the Maryland Episcopal Environmental Partners, the Diocese of Maryland Public Policy Branch, and the Truth and Reconciliation Council.
Join us at 10:00 am this Sunday to wish Audry good luck and Godspeed as she leaves for Maryland.
Sunday School Teachers Needed
Sunday School Resumes September 11
Rally Sunday is just around the corner and that means we need to fill a few remaining slots for our children and youth Sunday school program.  If you are interested in learning more about teaching Sunday school, please contact Kristen Weems for the children's program (Catachesis of the Good Shepherd) or Father Tripp for the middle and high school program.  We have a wonderful and strong program and only with your help can we keep it going.  Please prayerfully consider teaching this coming year.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:  Family Promise
Our Host Date Has Changed:
October 30th

Due to some administrative changes with the Day Center of Family Promise, our host week has changed from September 18 to October 30.
Family promise is an outreach agency sponsored in Forsyth County by 12 local churches, of which St. Columba's was one of the early host sites.  We are so excited to be part of this important outreach ministry.  We will need a total of 50 volunteers divided over our four one-week host weeks.  So we're counting on your help.
Missy Thompson and Kathleen Kraynick will have a full listing of all the ways you can volunteer during our host week soon.  So keep watching The Parish Post and the Sunday Bulletin for updates.  Thanks to everyone who helped with sheets, towels, pillows, and other items needed by these families who are in transition.
St. Columba's Choir
The St. Columba's Choir for adults has begun rehearsing for the 2016-2017 season and is seeking new singers of all voice parts.  Prospective singers are welcome to attend one or more rehearsals before deciding. For more information, please speak with Daniel Hahn after Mass or at the office (770-888-4464 x8003 or daniel@saintcolumba.net).
St. Columba's Choristers
The St. Columba's Choristers, our choir for boys and girls in second grade and higher (boys through voice change), will begin rehearsing for the 2016-2017 season soon.
Returning Choristers will begin rehearsing on Wednesday, August 10, at 5:15 pm. New Choristers will begin rehearing on Wednesday, August 31. The Choristers sing each Sunday at the 9:00 Mass except for the third Sunday of each month, and their first Sunday back will be September 11.
The Choristers learn to read music rather than just learning songs by rote, they learn correct singing techniques, and they learn what it means to participate fully in our liturgies as part of a choir. If you would like for your child to join the Choristers, see Daniel Hahn after Mass or contact him at the Parish Office (daniel@
saintcolumba.net or 770-888-4464 ext. 8003).
Pacesetters
Thursday, August 25  |  Louisiana Kitchen
On Thursday, August 25, we will travel to old downtown Kennesaw to eat lunch at Henry's Louisiana Kitchen. We will depart from the church at 11:30 am and return around 3:30 pm.
Please RSVP to Jim Edwards (770-831-3380 or jim.w.edwards@att.net).  The reservation cut-off date is Sunday, August 21
St. Columba's Cookbook

ECW is beginning a new project of creating a St. Columba's Cookbook, to help raise money for the church. We have amazing cooks in our church as the breakfasts, cookouts, and chili cook-offs have shown. We would love to learn and share all of the recipes from our parishioners. Please find your favorite recipes, type them up, and email them to Allison Bronk (abronk@windscape.com).
You can submit as many recipes as you would like, and for any category you wish. We are looking for any type of recipes for any time of day. We would also like to see if we can get some gluten-free recipes and some vegetarian recipes as well as the standard favorites. We need all hands on deck to make this a success. If you have not been receiving the ECW emails please contact Allison Bronk (abronk@windscape.com, 404-840-0113) so you can be included.

Prayer Shawls
Sunday, August 14
Prayer shawls will be available in the Narthex on Sunday, August 14. If you need a prayer shawl before then or for more information contact Diane Millott (dianemillott@gmail.com or 678-455-7355).
Prayer shawls are available on the second Sunday of each month except July.
Food Pantry Update
In-gathering Sunday:  August 21
July was a good month for donations to our food pantry.  We provided 329 pounds of food to Emmaus House.  Similar to The Place of Forsyth County, Emmaus House has recently switched to a system where those in need can come in to pick out food that is best for their family, restoring some level of dignity at the same time.  These are great steps forward for both food pantries!  We will also be providing August's donations of non-perishable food to The Place of Forsyth County, collecting food each week leading up to the 3rd Sunday of the month (August 21st - Breakfast Sunday), which is the official collection day for the month.
We'll continue with the same list of needs as in recent months - 'hearty' or 'chunky' soups, canned or boxed milk, and canned pasta (ravioli, Beefaroni, etc).  Other needs include canned vegetables, canned fruit, spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, and other items that can be stored for a long period of time.  Donations can be placed in the tubs located next to the welcome table in the narthex.  Please begin or continue to help in this effort to assist local families in need - thank you!"
