Things are off and running with Family Promise of Forsyth County and our first host week at St. Columba's begins September 18! Watch your email in the coming weeks for volunteer sign-up and training opportunities. In the meantime, check out these two fun events supporting Family Promise:

Sounds of Sawnee Concert: Sunday, July 24, 5:00 pm, Midway United Methodist Church. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at www.familypromiseofforsythcounty.org. All proceeds to go Family Promise of Forsyth County.

2nd Annual Bed Race & Festival: Saturday, August 27, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, Creekside United Methodist Church. If you're interested in being part of a St. Columba's Bed Race team, contact Kathleen Kraynick at kkraynick1402@gmail.com.

St. Columba's Cookbook

ECW is beginning a new project of creating a St. Columba's Cookbook, to help raise money for the church. We have amazing cooks in our church as the breakfasts, cookouts, and chili cook-offs have shown. We would love to learn and share all of the recipes from our parishioners. Please find your favorite recipes, type them up, and email them to Allison Bronk (abronk@windscape.com).

You can submit as many recipes as you would like, and for any category you wish. We are looking for any type of recipes for any time of day. We would also like to see if we can get some gluten-free recipes and some vegetarian recipes as well as the standard favorites. We need all hands on deck to make this a success. If you have not been receiving the ECW emails please contact Allison Bronk (abronk@windscape.com, 404-840-0113) so you can be included.

Parish Prayer List

Our plan is to have any prayer requests printed in the bulletin for 3 months maximum.

After that time requests for a continuation for a further 3 months can be made. Names can also be transferred over to the Order of the Daughters of the King, St. Brigid Chapter, for daily prayer.

Our first 3-month list will begin in our bulletin on September 4. Thanking you all for your cooperation.

St. Columba's Choir
     Choir rehearsals are (almost) back!

The Choir is searching for singers of all voice parts. Rehearsals will resume on July 28 (Thursdays, 7:00-8:45 pm). Prospective singers are welcome to attend one or more rehearsals before deciding. For more information, please speak with Daniel Hahn after Mass or at the office (770-888-4464 x8003 or daniel@saintcolumba.net).

St. Columba's Choristers
The St. Columba's Choristers, our choir for boys and girls in second grade and higher (boys through voice change), will begin rehearsing for the 2016-2017 season soon.

Returning Choristers will begin rehearsing on Wednesday, August 10, at 5:15 pm. New Choristers will begin rehearing on Wednesday, August 31. The Choristers sing each Sunday at the 9:00 Mass except for the third Sunday of each month, and their first Sunday back will be September 11.

The Choristers learn to read music rather than just learning songs by rote, they learn correct singing techniques, and they learn what it means to participate fully in our liturgies as part of a choir. If you would like for your child to join the Choristers, see Daniel Hahn after Mass or contact him at the Parish Office (daniel@
saintcolumba.net or 770-888-4464 ext. 8003).

Prayer Shawls

prayer-shawl

Prayer shawls will be available in the Narthex on Sunday, August 14. If you need a prayer shawl before then or for more information contact Diane Millott (dianemillott@gmail.com or 678-455-7355).

Prayer shawls are available on the second Sunday of each month except July.

Don't forget your summer donations

all are named As you enjoy the summer season, please consider continuing your parish donations with the use of automatic payments while you are away.

Financially summer is our greatest challenge.  Weekly donations decrease with increased parishioner vacations, yet our expenses continue and are even higher (air conditioning and water) during the summer months.

Please consider paying your weekly pledges ahead of time, mail your pledges to the church in care of the treasurer, or set up on-line bill pay with your bank.  If you have any questions or need assistance, please reach out to our treasurer Jeannie Lamp lamp.jeannie@gmail.com

Food Pantry Update

Many thanks to St. Columba's parishioners and others who donated to our food pantry in the month of June.  We provided 252 pounds of food to The Place of Forsyth County and received great feedback on how their program is working now.  Their food pantry, 'The Market', is one where those in need can come in to pick out food that is best for their family, restoring some level of dignity at the same time.  They also have a garden coming on-line soon and are receiving fresh eggs as well - definitely a bright spot for those dealing with food insecurity issues!

We will also be providing July's donations of non-perishable food to Emmaus House, collecting food each week leading up to the 3rd Sunday of the month (July 17th - Breakfast Sunday), which is the official collection day for the month.  PLEASE remember that, with school out for the summer, the need definitely goes up as children do not benefit from free/reduced breakfast and lunch at school - please help during these important summer months!!

We'll continue with the same list of needs as in recent months - 'hearty' or 'chunky' soups, canned or boxed milk, and canned pasta (ravioli, Beefaroni, etc).  Other needs include canned vegetables, canned fruit, spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, and other items that can be stored for a long period of time.  Donations can be placed in the tubs located next to the welcome table in the narthex.  Please begin or continue to help in this effort to assist local families in need - thank you!
