Rally Sunday Celebration & Parish Cookout
|
Rally Sunday Is this Weekend 13 September 2015
The day has arrived: Sunday school resumes this weekend (9/13)! Rally Sunday is always a huge celebration for us as a parish and this year will be no exception. Children, teenagers, and adult Sunday school launch into what will undoubtedly be another great year. A full description of our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program for elementary school grades and Growing In Faith program for middle and high school grades can be found on our website (click here). We'll give thanks for and commission our Sunday school teachers at the 11:15 Mass on the 13th. Then at 12:30, we'll celebrate with a parish-wide cookout. The Knights of Columba will handle all the food ... no need to bring a thing. Join us for a great celebration and don't forget this would be a great day to bring a friend to church with you - evangelism is the mission we all share!

Attention Men of the Parish
| Update on Knights of Columba The Knights of Columba is the name of the Saint Columba Men's Ministry and all men over 21 are eligible to participate. At the end of August, the Knights gathered for an organizational meeting and asked for input on what the mission of the Knights' ministry should be and for recommendations on fellowship activities and outreach ministry projects that could be a part of the schedule for the new school year. If you didn't receive the update email, please let us know. If you haven't already, be sure to forward your suggestions and ideas to Larry Hutson and Bill Parkinson. The next meeting will be in mid-October. Details to come.

Serving @ The Place in Forsyth & Emmaus House in Atlanta
In August, we collected a total of 206 pounds that was taken to a very appreciative staff at The Place of Forsyth County! Please be assured that Emmaus House and The Place of Forsyth County are extremely thankful to get our donations each month. With everybody getting back to normal routines, let's have a big push in September and continue through the rest of the year! We will be providing September's donations of non-perishable food to The Place of Forsyth County, collecting food each week leading up to the 3rd Sunday of the month (September 20th - Breakfast Sunday), which is the official collection day for the month. As always, the biggest needs are for canned soups and vegetables, canned pasta (ravioli, Beefaroni, etc), canned fruit, spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, and anything that can be stored for a long period of time. Donations can be placed in the tubs located next to the welcome table in the narthex - no glass bottles, please! Please begin or continue to help in this effort to assist local families in need - thank you!

St. Columba's Prayer Garden |
A Peaceful Place To Pray, Remember and Reflect
As we consider how best to use our property, we are aware of the desire of many in our Parish family to have a sacred place for the remembrance of departed loved ones. A Prayer Garden becomes a peaceful, beautiful space for remembrance, prayer and reflection.
Our Prayer Garden can be developed in phases. Phase one would include interment soil with an 18" planter wall that incorporates an altar in the center of the wall, four teak benches, and ornamental tree and shrub plantings. Phase two could add a four foot high curved brick wall with a pondless water feature incorporated behind the benches. Phase three could add additional landscaping, including landscape boulders to complete our Prayer Garden.
