The Feast of St. Mary the Virgin
15 August 2015
Sunday School Teachers Needed
As we move through the final weeks of Summer, it's time to begin preparations for another great year of Sunday school for children and teenagers.  Our elementary grades follow the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd model, which is an absolutely phenomenal experience and excellent program for nurturing the faith of those ages 3 through 5th grade.  Our middle and high school program continues with the model of the Catechesis program with a very engaging, interactive program geared specifically for the needs and issues facing teenagers living lives of faith in today's world.
We do not have enough teachers as of yet for the coming school year.  Please consider volunteering your time in the coming year to assist with one of these two programs.  Kristin Weems coordinates the Catechesis program and Easton Davis coordinates the middle/high school program.  We have lead teachers in each classroom, and are in urgent need for adults who can assist in the class.  Contact Kristin, Easton or Father Tripp for more information.

Diocesan Youth Gathering
Filled To Be Emptied
Saturday, 29 August @ 10am - 5pm

On August 29, a Diocesan Youth Day Retreat: Filled to be Emptied will be hosted at at All Saints' Church in A  tlanta (near Georgia Tech). The retreat will begins at 10am and ends at 5pm. The cost is only $5 per person and includes lunch.

We will join with teenagers from parishes around our diocese  as we take a deeper look into why we are called to serve in the name of Christ, and what it means for us to reach out into our communities.

There will be fellowship, guest speakers, music,

lunch, a local service project, programming for young adults, and a special time for Youth Workers. Bishop Wright will also be with us for part of the day, and of course ... there everyone gets a t-shirt!

Race For A Cure

Race For A Cure
Saturday, August 22
Cancer is something that has affected all of us in one way or another, and most recently one of our youngest parishioners, Melissa Depa, earned her angel wings too soon due to leukemia. Phelan-Dempsey Orthodontics (parishioner Meredith Dempsey is owner) has put together a 5k road race with a 1 mile fun run to help raise money for children's cancer awareness and to help find a cure.
The race is on Saturday, August 22nd at 7:30 am in historic Buford. Registration can be completed online on www.active.com, bRace for a Cure (click the link below)
Food Pantry Outreach
Don't forget to help stock the food pantries for those in need
In July, we collected a total of 179 pounds of food and it was taken to Emmaus House. Their food pantry is small and seems to be always running low, so the staff there is very appreciative when our donations arrive. Thank you for continuing your efforts in this critical outreach area.August donations of non-perishable food will go to The Place of Forsyth County.
We'll be collecting food each week leading up to the 3rd Sunday of the month (August 16 - Breakfast Sunday), which is the official collection day for the month. Right now, the biggest needs are for Tuna Helper, canned fruit, Parmalat/Borden/Hershey's shelf boxed milk, dried beans and boxed pasta.Donations can be placed in the tubs located next to the welcome table in the narthex - no glass bottles, please!  Please begin or continue to help in this effort to assist local families in need - thank you!
