This Sunday @ St. Columba's
St. Columba Day & Corpus Christi - June7
Sunday, we will commemorate two feasts this coming Sunday: our patronal feast of St. Columba as well as the feast of Corpus Christi. St. Columba was an abbot and missionary charged with spreading Christianity into what is now modern day Scotland. His most famous community is the monastery at Iona, a site visited by nearly one million Christian pilgrims each year. Corpus Christi is the feast falling on the Sunday after Trinity Sunday and commemorates the presence of our Lord in the Sacrament. Archbishop Fulton Sheen spoke of the significance of keeping this feast in a sermon he preached on Corpus Christi 1959 saying, "The greatest love story of all time is contained in a tiny white host." Our choir will herald this feast by singing Elgar's O Salutaris Hostia and our offertory hymn will be "Sweet Sacrament Divine."

3rd Sunday Ingathering
In May, we had another good month of food pantry donations, collecting a total of 240 pounds that was taken to The Place of Forsyth County! Thank you for continuing your efforts in this critical outreach area. Summer becomes a critical time for many facing food insecurity, including children who are not benefitting from meals at their school, so your strong donations over these next few months are greatly appreciated!! We will be providing June's donations of non-perishable food to The Place of Forsyth County, collecting food each week leading up to the 3rd Sunday of the month (June 21st - Breakfast Sunday), which is the official collection day for the month. As always, the biggest needs are for canned soups and vegetables, canned pasta (ravioli, Beefaroni, etc), canned fruit, spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, and anything that can be stored for a long period of time. Donations can be placed in the tubs located next to the welcome table in the narthex - no glass bottles, please! Please begin or continue to help in this effort to assist local families in need - thank you! ( email link).
