Requiem Mass for All the Faithful Departed
|
| |
|

TOMORROW: Wednesday, November 5 at 7:00 pm
Join us for our annual Requiem Mass for All the Faithful Departed. The choir will sing some of the most beautiful and moving music which will be the backdrop for our prayers and reassurances from God as we remember those whom we have loved and entrusted back into God's gracious care. This Requiem Mass is one of the most moving liturgies of the year and a beautiful reminder that "in death, O Lord, life is changed not ended; and when our mortal body lies in death, there is prepared for us a dwelling place eternal in the heavens."

Have You Made a Financial Commitment to St. Columba's for 2015? |
|
November is Our Annual Pledge Drive Consecration Sunday was November 2 and we had a great beginning to the annual pledge drive for 2015. Our goal this year is 150 pledging households and a total budget (pledge, plate and designated offerings) of $600,000. We can accomplish this goal if every household participates. Focusing on "growing one step" in giving has been the challenge and theme of this year's campaign. If you have never made a pledge to the parish before, start somewhere; the amount is really what you are comfortable with and then to grow one step each year as you can. The future financial stability of St. Columba's depends on all of us making a commitment of time, talent, and treasure for the ministry and mission lived out here today, and by God's grace and with support from all of us, for generations to come.

Holy Oldies will have their next gathering on 11/8 at Abdereen Clubhouse. We will celebrate September, October, and November birthdays. Our theme is Giving Thanks and Giving Back. In lieu of the usual door charge, we aks everyone to bring a gift card for use at Quick Trip Gas Station, Kroger, or Wal-Mart ($10, $20, or more) to be donated for the ministries at Rainbow Village. Bring an appetizer to share. A sign up sheet is at the Welcome Table. Holy Oldies is a fellowship gathering for all those 55 years or older, or whose spouse is 55 or older. We had continued good food pantry donations in October, collecting 274 pounds of food that was delivered to both Emmaus House and The Place of Forsyth County - thank you!! A special thanks to the Flikeid family, who requested that guests to their son's Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony bring food donations - what a great idea!! As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday and remember that for which we are thankful, won't you please help those in need by bringing in non-perishable food to donate? We will be providing November's donations to The Place of Forsyth County, collecting food each week leading up to the 3rd Sunday of the month (November 16th - Breakfast Sunday) which is the official collection day for the month. Biggest needs are canned soups and vegetables, canned pasta (ravioli, beefaroni, etc, canned fruit, spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, and anything that can be stored for a long period of time. Donations can be placed in the tubs located next to the welcome table in the narthex. Thanks again so very much for your help!!

Sunday Mornings: Rector's Forum
"Holy Questions Episcopal Response"
We continue our exploration and discussion about some of the basic questions we all have about God, faith, the Bible, the Church, ethics, prayer, and worship. Questions like "Can I have doubts and still be a Christian," "Does hell exist," "Does prayer really work," "Do we believe the Bible to be literally true," "How did the Church come to be, and where did the Episcopal Church come from," "What can I do if I have trouble praying or believing in God," and "Why do we worship the way we do?" Please join us on Sunday mornings at 10:10.

Thursdays: Mid-Day Bible Study
"The Book of Psalms"
Our mid-week Bible study has resumed. We are beginning a study of The Book of Psalms. Long called the most perfect prayer book of the Church, Psalms is the backbone of our morning and vesper prayers and they speak to the longings of the soul. Together we will explore the poetry, imagery, and spirituality of the Psalms. We have a lively and engaging group, and would love to have you join us each week or as often as you can. Coffee, Iced Tea and refreshments will be served. Join us as often as you can!
