Acolyte Meeting
* This Sunday * September 21  at 12:30
Acolyte-training If you are in the 3rd through 12th grade and are currently an acolyte or if you would like to become an acolyte, please join us on September 21 at 12:30pm for a meeting and short lunch.  If you haven't already done so, RSVP via the sign-up genius link (click here).  We need more acolytes to fully fill our rota, especially at the 11:15 Mass.  So now is a great time to get involved and serve!  For more information, contact Kristi Parkinson (click here).
F.E.A.S.T. Groups Now Forming
Kick-Off Social - THIS Saturday, September 20 @ 6:30pm
     New FEAST Groups are being formed for fall and winter.  You can select a group that meets in parishioners homes or a group that meets in a local restaurant.  We also have groups for those who have young children.  FEAST is an acronym that stands for Friends Eating and Sharing Together, and is a great way to connect with fellow parishioners and make new friends.
     Groups are 8-10 people and meet monthly to share a meal together.  For the home groups, usually the host prepares the entrée and others bring a side dish or appetizer - the great part of FEAST group dinners is no one has to cook the whole meal!  Restaurant groups meet at local restaurants and are a great way to try out new hot spots with a group of friends.
     A sign up sheet is at the Welcome Table or you can email Sandra Sirmon to sign up online, to ask any questions, or to get more information (click here).
Choral Evensong & Benediction
Sunday, September 28 @ 4:00 pm  (Eve of St. Michael & All Angels)
   As our choir begins is new season, they will sing at  Choral Evensong and Benediction on Sunday, September 28 at 4:00 pm.  This will be first vespers for the feast of St. Michael and All Angels.

     The combined St. Columba's Choir and Choristers will sing music of Herbert Brewer, Gustav Holst, Arvo Pärt, and Daniel Hahn.  Evensong is the Church's vesper prayer giving thanks to God for the blessings of the day and the witness and fiat of St. Mary who said "yes" to God's call to become the Godbearer to the world.  Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament is a way to live into the life we as Christians celebrate in the Eucharist.  It is a way of acknowledging and giving thanks to God for the continued presence of Christ in our lives.

     A parish reception will follow.  Let us pause in the busyness of our fall season, and in the music of one evening allow God to move and inspire us for the work we are called to do and who we are called to be in the world.

Outreach Ministry News
     We had a significant drop in food collected for the month of August, with only 148 pounds being delivered to The Place of Forsyth County.  Hopefully everybody has seen at least highlights from the Hunger In America 2014 study (www.feedingamerica.org).  Various agencies, including the two St. Columba's supports, serve 46.5M people in the U.S., 1 out of every 7 people!  This includes 12M children and 7M seniors.  The demographics are wide-ranging and include many who are simply struggling to get by on a monthly basis - 93% live in a permanent residence, 41% have at least one household member with post-HS education, and 20% of households include at least one military veteran.  Their struggles, however, force them to make choices - 69% had to choose between food and utilities and 66% have had to choose between food and medical care.  There is a great need both in the local Forsyth County and the greater Atlanta areas.  Please do what you can to help those in need.  We will be providing September's donations to The Place of Forsyth County, collecting food each week leading up to the 3rd Sunday of the month (September 21st - Breakfast Sunday) which is the official collection day for the month.  Biggest needs are canned soups and vegetables, peanut butter, and anything that can be stored for a long period of time.  Donations can be placed in the tubs located next to the welcome table in the narthex.  Thanks in advance for your help!
Handmade Christmas Ornaments
From The Guild of St. Rose

If you missed our display last week it isn't too late to purchase the ornaments.  There are a few left for sale.  There are three designs available. The cost is $65 each.  Please contact Bonnie Moore at Bonniemoore635@yahoo.com for information on purchase and delivery.  When these are all sold there won't be any more available until next year.  This is a 6 year project to duplicate all the crosses on the altar rail kneelers.  The funds from this sale benefit the Outreach Fund as well as the Guild's ongoing projects for the church.
