 The 1st Weekend in Lent  /  9 March 2014

Time Change This Weekend
Spring Forward 1 Hour
Don't forget to set your clocks ahead 1-hour before going to bed Saturday night.  Daylight Savings Time begins this weekend.
Confirmation Classes Begin
Sunday, 9 March
confirmation
Confirmation classes will begin this Sunday for adults and teenagers (9th-12th grade).  Adults will meet from 12:30-1:30pm and Teenagers will meet from 5:00-6:00pm. Confirmation Mass will be Sunday, May 11 at 11:15, with Bishop Whitmore as our celebrant and preacher.

The Sacrament of Confirmation is the rite by which we make a mature profession of our faith before the Bishop and take on responsibility for our faith and membership in the Church.   Since we become full members of Christ's body and the Church through our baptism, confirmation is a strengthening of the gifts given to us in baptism so that we can enter into our vocation, our calling, as Christians to lead others into the fullness of a holy, catholic, and apostolic faith.  You can sign up at the Welcome Table or online via our parish website (Click Here).

Lenten Programs
As we move through these forty days of Lent, three programs are being offered for you to deepen your faith and grow your relationship with God.

Sunday Mornings at 10:10:   24 Hours That Changed the World
Facilitated by Father Tripp and our seminarian, Chris Miller,  this series will look the last 24 hours of Jesus' life on earth and how that has influenced the world more than any other event ever has.

Wednesday Evenings at 6:30:  Praying These Forty Days.

A series where we will experience different ways to encounter the mystery and presence of God through prayer and worship.  Stations of the Cross, the Rosary, contemplative prayer, and sung Compline will be parts of our Wednesday evenings during Lent.

Thursdays,12:30pm:   Bible Study:  Sanctifying Time.

Our Thursday Bible study will look the three-year lectionary cycle that is used by the Church and the themes associated with each year (we are currently in Year A which draws from St. Matthew's Gospel).  This rhythm of Scripture readings gives a focus and image to us that sanctifies time in a way only the living Word of God can do.  Join us Thursdays from 12:30-1:30 each week.

Pacesetters Ministry
Thursday, 20 March
Our Pacesetters Ministry will travel to Gibb's Garden in Ballground GA on Thursday, March 20.  The cost is $18.00 per person.  For more information or to purchase tickets, please contact Karl Sammons or Jim Edwards.  Pacesetters is a fellowship ministry of the church that is open to all adults.
PLAYGROUND UPDATE
If you are a parent or grandparent of a young child that has enjoyed playing on the playset, you may have noticed that it is missing.
A newer set has been donated to St Columba's and a small group of dads have volunteered to rework both of our playgrounds to create a safe environment for our children. But they need your help.

Over the next few Saturdays the donated set needs to be dismantled, moved and reassembled at the church.  New landscape timbers need to be installed around the playset and new mulch spread.  The set behind the classrooms requires mostly cosmetic improvements.

CAN YOU HELP?  We need some able bodied men and women to assist our efforts.  Donations to acquire the landscape timbers, hardware and stain are also needed.  $25, $50 or $100 would go a long way to seeing this project to completion.  Just put "playground" in the memo on your check.

If you have any questions, contact Scott Doyle [email protected] or Gordon Ralph at

FEAST GROUP UPDATE
Looking to join a small group where you can develop close friendships and grow in your faith as you share a meal together? Then Feast Groups is for you. The spring/summer session sign ups begin in January. There will be a Social on Saturday, March 29 at 6:30 pm at church to get acquainted with your group. Then from March till September you will get together with your group (about 6 times) to share a meal. The groups are limited to about 8 to 10 people, with both couples and singles included. You may choose to belong to a Home, Restaurant, or Family Group. Within each group everyone takes a turn being the host. With Home or Family Groups the host provides the menu and main dish. The Home or Family Group host coordinates with the others to bring the rest so no one has to prepare a complete meal! With Restaurant Groups, the host decides at which restaurant they will meet. The Groups will, as always, be shuffled again after this session. Next September, we will have sign ups for the fall/winter Feast Group session. Please sign up at the Welcome Table or email Sandra Sirmon at [email protected].
