Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
Tuesday, March 4 from 6:30 - 8:00 pm
Pancake Supper  Join us for the traditional pancake supper the evening before Ash Wednesday.  "Shrove Tuesday" is a day of preparation for the 40 day season of Lent.  Pancakes and celebration were a way of preparing our hearts and homes for the season of penitence, fasting, and self-denial.  Our  EYC will be hosting the entire parish for a fun evening of pancakes, games, and fellowship.  The cost is only $3 per person and $10 max per family.
**Bring in your palms from last Palm Sunday between now and Shrove Tuesday evening.  We will burn them Shrove Tuesday evening to make ashes for our Ash Wednesday liturgies.
ash-wednesday Ash Wednesday Liturgies
Wednesday, March 5 - 7:00 am; 12:00 noon; 7:00 pm
Ash Wednesday liturgies have been scheduled for 7:00 am, 12 noon, and 7:00 pm.  The 7am liturgy will not have a Mass; instead it will be only the liturgy of the day and imposition of Ashes.  The 12 noon liturgy will be Low Mass with Imposition of Ashes (no music or choir).  The 7:00 pm liturgy will be Choral Mass with Imposition of Ashes.  The church will be open all day for private prayer as we prepare for Lent.  Lenten Mite boxes will be available for pick up on Ash Wednesday and the Sunday following.
Rector's ForumWhat Is Lent
This Sunday, March 2 at 10:10 am
This Sunday we will explore the origins and meaning of Lent and how can you grow through the season, doing those things that help you mature in your walk with Christ while letting go of those things that hold you back. We will look at the steps on the Lenten Journey available here at St. Columba's as well as on your own at home and at work.
This will be an introduction to our 2 Lenten Programs:,
>> Sunday Mornings at 10:10:

"24 Hours That Changed the World"

>> Wednesday Evenings at 6:30:

          "Praying These Forty Days"

Come join this Sunday's Forum as we discuss how we might prepare for this journey.

Confirmation Classes Begin March 9
March 9 - May 11, 2014
Confirmation classes will begin March 9 for adults and teenagers (9th-12th grade).  Adults will meet from 12:30-1:30pm and Teenagers will meet from 5:00-6:00pm.
Confirmation Mass will be Sunday, May 11 at 11:15, with Bishop Whitmore as our celebrant and preacher.
The Sacrament of Confirmation is the rite by which we make a mature profession of our faith before the Bishop and take on responsibility for our faith and membership in the Church.   Since we become full members of Christ's body and the Church through our baptism, confirmation is a strengthening of the gifts given to us in baptism so that we can enter into our vocation, our calling, as Christians to lead others into the fullness of a holy, catholic, and apostolic faith.

Sunday, March 16 @ 5:30p
Register Early - Space is Limited!
Back by popular demand, our EYC will once again be hosting a St. Paddy's celebration and dinner gala at the church!  It will be an evening of delicious traditional Irish food:  corned beef hash, brisket, cabbage, potato soup, and soda bread.  Of course there will be "traditional Irish beverages and lucky green solo cups!"  Members of the EYC will provide a wonderful assortment of music throughout the meal.  Space is limited - so register early!  The cost is $20 per person ($10 for children 10 and under) if you register by 3/9.  This is a fun evening but also a very important fundraiser for the EYC summer mission trip.

Backpacks of Love Sponsors Needed
Backpacks of Love supports children and families with 165 food-filled backpacks every other week - that's more than 6000 pounds of food, delivered one backpack at a time to 19 schools in Forsyth and Fulton counties. St. Columba's partnered with Backpacks of Love a year ago and generous parishioners regularly fill 15-18 backpacks for every delivery. But with the program's tremendous growth this school year, Backpacks of Love urgently needs more backpack sponsors.

How can you help?
When you sign up as a backpack sponsor, you'll get a schedule of upcoming delivery dates by email. Simply respond with the dates where you can help, pick up an empty backpack at church, fill it with groceries and toiletry items, and return it by 12 noon on the assigned drop-off day. You can sponsor a backpack every two weeks, once a month, or on whatever schedule works for you. When you sign up, you'll get a suggested shopping list and some information about the family you're shopping for. Backpacks of Love is a simple and meaningful way to help at-risk children in our local community.
For more information or to sign up, please contact Ron and Kathleen Kraynick at via email or 675-557-4111.
