Newcomer Reception
This Sunday, February 6
Are you new to St. Columba's?  Are you visiting as you search for a church home?  Are you looking for more information or for ways to get more involved in the ministries and fellowship of the parish?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then our newcomer reception is just what you're looking for!  At the newcomer reception, you'll meet several ministry leaders, hear the story of our parish beginnings and our mission as we move forward into our 10th year together.
The receptions are held just about every other month, so if you can't attend this Sunday, our next reception will be held soon.  For more information or to sign up to attend, click here.       We look forward to seeing you this Sunday evening (6:00-7:30pm).
Outreach Ministry
Community Food Pantry
A great start to the year, St. Columba's!  We collected 224 pounds of food in the January food drive, which was delivered to Emmaus House.  Thank you so much for your support.  February's donations will be delivered to The Place in Forsyth.  Food can be dropped off anytime, and the 3rd Sunday of the month is the official collection day.  Urgent needs are Tuna helper and Parmalat/Borden's or Hershey's boxed milk.  Other needs are caned soups and vegetables and anything that can be stored for a long period.  The collection bin is located by the Welcome Table.  Thank you for your continued support to those in need in our community!

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
Pancake Supper
Tuesday, February 12 from 6:30 - 8:30pm
Join us on Shrove Tuesday for our annual pre-Lenten pancake supper!  For hundreds of years, pancake suppers in parish churches have ushered in the Lenten Season.  Always the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, Shrove Tuesday hosts a day of celebration before the ashes mark our foreheads in reminder of our mortal nature and need for God's redemption and grace.  Our Youth Group will be preparing pancakes, sausage, bacon, and fruit.  They will also be leading Bingo and other fun events throughout the evening as we bring a little piece of Mardi Gras to St. Columba's!  All are invited!
Don't forget to bring your palms from last year to church this weekend or Shrove Tuesday.  We will burn last year's palms to make ashes for our Ash Wednesday liturgies.
Ash Wednesday Liturgies
February 13 @ 7 am, 12 noon, &7 pm
Ash Wednesday begins the forty-day season of Lent.  It is marked by special prayers, fasting, acts of devotion, and special liturgies.  We will offer three liturgies on Ash Wednesday.  At 7:00 am there will be the Ash Wednesday Liturgy & Imposition of Ashes (but no Eucharist).  This is a short liturgy for those who are on their way to work or school and will end by 7:30.  At Noon there will be a quiet, said Mass with a homily and imposition of ashes.  Then at 7:00pm, a full choral Mass will be sung also with a homily and imposition of ashes.  This is one of the most important days of our Church year.  Please make plans to attend one of our three liturgies so that you can prepare in heart and mind Ash-Wednesday for the Lenten journey.  This spiritual journey prepares us to see the new light of the Resurrection come Easter morning.    Confessions will be heard on Tuesday from 12-1 pm, Wednesday following the 7 am liturgy, or by appointment (contact Father Tripp).
Choir to Sing At Cathedral of St. Philip
The St. Columba's Choir has been invited to sing Evensong at the Cathedral of St. Philip (2744 Peachtree Road NW, Atlanta, 30305) on Sunday, February 24, at 4:00 pm. Evensong, which is made up of readings, prayers, and magnificent music, is a beautiful service, especially in the inspiring setting of a  cathedral. This invitation is a rare opportunity and a great honor for our choir and parish, and we hope you'll join us at the Cathedral. An organ recital played by Daniel Hahn will precede Evensong at 3:15 pm.       (Click here for directions to the Cathedral)

Holy Oldies Mardi Gras Party
Saturday, February 9, 7:00-9:00pm
If you are among the fortunate to be 55 or older or have a spouse who is, you are cordially invited to help us celebrate Mardi Gras on February 9 at Aberdeen Clubhouse.  We also celebrate the birthdays of those who fall in December, January, or February.  The evening is a time of food, fellowship, music, and fun. The cost is only $5 to help cover the supply cost, and you bring a heavy appetizer to share and a beverage of your choice.  We look forward to seeing you there!

1st "Butts for the Bowl" Event Success!
A tremendous thanks to our Knights of Columba (men's group) for a very popular and quite tasty event last weekend!  They sold 80 Boston Pork Shoulders for the first "Butts for the Bowl" outreach ministry fundraiser.  Thanks to everyone who ordered and made the event so successful.  It was a lot of fun for everyone involved; the hard work by our Knights certainly showed in the top-notch service and delivery last Sunday morning.  Fighting a cold weekend, even with some sleet and rain at times, they pressed on and we certainly appreciate all the hard work.  A special thanks to Jim Duggan, Todd Reid, Dale Humphries, Bill Parkinson, and Nathan Martin for coordinating this event.  This will be the first of several more fellowship events and special projects planned for the men of the parish.  So stay tuned for news of the next gathering (which will be a bit more relaxed and warm than last weekend's!).
