Witch's Ladder with gemstones $84

A modern witch's ladder is a string beads - also known as Pagan Prayer Beads. These ones have been made building on the power of 3 - with three groups of beads in a 3 x 9 x 21 (33 beads) arrangement. They form a wonderful meditative or ritual tool. The beads enable a witch to concentrate on repetitive chants or incantation without having to keep count. This enables you to focus will and energy on the desired goal.

Shop Chat - new found freedom

Hayden is celebrating and enjoying his new found freedom of being able to drive again.  He has had many eye problems over the past few years - cataracts and diabetic retinal damage and had to surrender his drivers license.  Now after a few years of treatment his eyesight is stable enough to earn back his license.  I actaully go out and play bridge at least a few times each week, whereas he would sometimes go weeks without leaving Woodend - and end up a bit cabin crazy.  I am also enjoying not having to be the driver all the time . . . .

In the News - Coven will mark start of First World War (UK)

THE Cauldron of Cerridwen, a Wiccan coven from Upavon, will host a Pagan remembrance ceremony on Saturday at Avebury Henge at noon, to mark the 100th anniversary of the Great War, and to remember those that paid the ultimate sacrifice.

The ceremony will be fairly traditional, with poetry and prose and personal accounts from the period. There will be a twominute silence with Last Post and Reveille, and following the ceremony a wreath will be laid at the village war memorial.

There are many Pagan servicemen and women currently serving, and many more in the veteran community, and this is one of the first of these types of ceremonies to take place.

It is hoped that this may become a regular occurrence in November each year for Remembrance Day

In the News - 'Goddesses' to swim naked at the full moon in Oregon City (US)

As the full moon rises on Saturday, Aug. 9, a group of mortal women will shed their clothes and swim nude in the moonlight - transforming, so they say, into goddesses.

They call it the Naked Goddess Swim, now in its second year, an event that invites any and all women to Clackamette Cove (known by some as Clackamas Cove) in Oregon City to join in the moonbathing.

First-time swimmers pay $32 to swim, also earning their official goddess bathing cap. Returning swimmers pay a discounted $22. Women - men aren't allowed to participate - can sign up for the naked swim online.

Those who want to participate but can't or don't want to swim can sign up to simply frolic in the moonlight, organizers say. The event is also looking for "kayak Gods" - men or women who assist the swimmers in kayaks on the water. Bidding for those positions starts at $50.

The money raised by the Naked Goddess Swim goes to Friends of Clackamas Cove and breast cancer research.

Still in its infancy, the swim has few rules, relishing in the primal joy of it all. Organizers describe it simply as an event "where mere mortal women shed their suits and inhibitions to swim as Goddesses in the full moonlight."

In the News : Police investigate white supremacist use of Stonehenge solstice pics(UK)

Police are to launch an inquiry after a white supremacist group used images of pagans celebrating the summer solstice at Stonehenge to promote their racist ideology.

The chairman of the Pagan Police Association, a group of police officers who are pagan, pledged to investigate the use of around a dozen pictures, which showed the ceremonies and revelries at the Wiltshire landmark earlier this summer, which were posted by a member of the organisation 'White Heritage' on its website.

The article included captions proclaiming the paganism as the 'true religion' of British people, and denouncing something called the 'Roman Christian Jewish' invasion.

. .  . one pagan leader, King Arthur Pendragon, denounced the use of his image, and those of his friends and fellow solstice-goers. . . . .

Goddess of the Month
Hathor by Kimi Ravensky

(Egyptian with a name that means 'House of Horus' ).

Patron of - the sky, the sun, , music, dance and the artistic abilities. She was believed to be the personification of the Milky Way which was viewed as the milk that flowed from the udder of a heavenly cow.  Her early appearance is that of a cow bearing the sun disk between her two horns, but in later periods she was depicted as a woman with a cows head, and now there are different versions, such as a beautiful woman with a crown of two horns that surround a sun disk.

She was a very ancient Goddess and her following was unusual as both men and women were her priest's ,most were artisan's,musicians and dancers who turned their talents to creating rituals that were considered astounding throughout Egypt ..

The Sycamore tree was sacred to Hathor, it is said from this tree  that she was thought to hand out good wishes/blessings to the deceased in the afterlife. Hathor's symbology included such items that included the Sistra ( a type of rattle), two horns and sun disc headdress, the Menat ( a necklace made of turquoise that could also could have been used for percussive music, mirrors also play a leading role.

As are most Deities, she is quite complex, so look her up and get to know her over this month.
