Quote of the Week

"Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold. But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow."

Douglas Pagels

Daily Lore and Legend

 June 16

Silver Chalice Day is celebrated by some Wiccan groups.   Every year on this date friends and coven members gather together in a circle to rejoice and share a traditional silver chalice of wine (or fruit juice) consecrated in the names of the Goddess and Her consort, the Horned God.

 Wit of the Week

There aren't enough days in the weekend.

Shop Chat

I've actually had a few weekends off this month - very rare - last weekend I played in a big bridge tournament in Melbourne (don't ask how I went) while tomorrow I leave with my sister for a few days in Sydney to spend with our brother who is turning 50 (I'm sure I'm too young to have younger siblings turning 50!)

It is interesting that our local library is celebrating "Winter Solstice Storytelling for Families - Celebrate the longest night of the year with master storyteller Anne E Stewart for spooky tales to chill and thrill! Wear your spookiest, freaky gear and enjoy a black cat or two. Wonderful family entertainment for 5-12 year olds and beyond"

In the News - Pagans in South Africa Defy Religious Discrimination

. . . . . Adults of varying ages, and a few children, are seated on sofas or cross-legged on the floor. Their eyes are closed, their palms turned upwards.

The soothing voice of a bare-footed and bespectacled middle-aged man, salt-and-pepper stubble covering his chin, shreds the quiet and leads the meditation.

Swaddled in a shiny navy robe, he exhorts the group to inhale and exhale, "to let go of all negativity, to feel your roots reaching into the lava at the center of the earth."

He's the High Priest, preparing his fellow Pagans for a ritual that was first performed thousands of years ago. He wants to be identified only by his first name, Greg.

"My family and friends know I'm a (high-ranking) Pagan but only one or two of my work colleagues know. We can't share what we do with everyone; they don't understand," he says.

Most Pagans present here are professionals. By day, they're businesspeople, accountants, teachers, even doctors... Several nights a year, they meet to observe important dates on the Pagan calendar, such as the seasonal equinoxes.    . . .

Spell of the Day : Vacation Spell

For a change of pace you may want to try using some magic to decide the best destination for a quick get away. You will need a pendulum and a map. Narrow down your choices to between three and five destinations and spread the map in front of you. First, as the pendulum to show you a "no" answer and a "yes" answer. When you have determined which way it swings for yes and no, hold it over each sight. Ask aloud if this would be a good place for your vacation. The pendulum will swing giving you a yes or no answer. If the pendulum swings in circles or vibrates wildy, avoid that location. When the pendulum answers yes to one or more locations you have your destinations!

These spells are selected to inform and inspire, not necessarily to be followed exactly, I suggest using your magickal intuition to adapt these to your purposes and infuse your own personal power.
