                 E-Newsletter October
 2014 Vol. 9 No. 2

Greetings!

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! In the months leading up to this newsletter, my heart had been very heavy. I suspect many of yours are as well, as we have heard of the gruesome persecution of our fellow Christians from across the globe. I have had several people say to me, "Andrew, I just don't know what to do. I am here. They are there. What can I do?"

In such a situation, we must begin as the Ugandans began in their battle against HIV, by falling to our knees in prayer. The Bible tells us to pray without ceasing and to pray for one another. Whether we are feeling the pain of the persecuted church, the weight of millions of lives lost to AIDS, or dealing with problems at home or work, we must begin, end, and take all the time in between in prayer.

Secondly, God has a purpose and plan for each one of us, and he has also given us a sphere of influence. Your sphere of influence could be your workplace, your church, your school, your family, or even your supermarket. We must endeavor, at all times, to be the Light of Christ. We can follow the example one young girl from Kasese, Uganda this month, and share our testimonies (read story below). We never know how our testimony, kind words, or sharing of our faith will impact another person. We should also never underestimate the powerful affect of prayer, even on those we don't know personally.

It is that revelation that turned my heavy heart into a joyful one. Our UCE teams across Africa have continued to have a great impact within their spheres of influence, and on the lives of thousands of youth, schools, couples, and even Police Officers (read story below)! We are still very much in need of your prayers. Please, I beg you, pray for us, and pray for all the youth who have committed to chastity. It is a challenging commitment, but with their fellow Christians across the globe praying for them, and with Christ in their corner, they will succeed.

Finally, I want to draw your attention to two special events coming up. UCE co-founders Drs. Ken and Kim Dernovsek will be on EWTN "Africa-Life Under Siege" this Saturday the 25th, at 11:00PM ET (9PM MST). This documentary is the first of several interviews the Drs. had while in Nigeria this summer. Also, if you are in Colorado, please save the date, December 5th, at 6PM for World AIDS Day. Jude Tadeo Walubo, UCE Uganda National Coordinator, will be visiting Colorado from November 19th-December 8th, and will be the special guest speaker. The event will be held at St. Paul the Apostle in Pueblo West. You can reply to this email to RSVP and/or to sign up for 1 hour to pray during the All Night Prayer Vigil (8PM, the 5th through 8AM, the 6th). May you all be the Light of Christ, and may God bless you.

Yours in Christ,
Andrew Dernovsek
Executive Director

Be the Light of Christ!
The story of one young girl, encourages us; that we must always be the Light of Christ, and be willing to share our testimony with others.

The Kasese team has been reaching out to all societal groups. This month, the team reached in school youth, out of school youth, couples, and trained priests in the message of chastity.

During the closing of an outreach at Kyalhumba, one boy shared the following story, "I had wanted to fall in love with a certain girl. When I talked to her she told me she signed an abstinence card, that she was abstinent until she finishes school and gets the right partner. She refused me and brought her album (school notebook), the UCE card she had signed two months ago was on the front page and she asked me to read it. I read it, and from there I left her alone. When I heard UCE was coming to talk to the youth of Kyalhumba I decided to come and sign too an abstinence card, to make a promise and live by it, and it will protect me whenever I show it to someone who may want to take me astray. THANK YOU UCE TEAM, please continue reaching more youth."...Read more

President of Burundi, Pierre Nkurunziza, commends the work of UCE Burundi
The work of UCE Burundi in training Police Officers in the message of chastity draws the attention of the President.

The Universal Chastity Education (UCE) team in Burundi has taken to training all sectors of society in the message of chastity. While UCE outreaches focus on youth chastity training (purity and abstinence until a faithful marriage), and regularly include couples trainings, the team, led by Bishop Martin Nyaboho of Makamba Diocese, has also reached other important groups. Notably, the team has been holding trainings for Police Officers and government workers. The UCE Team knows that police have an interest in protecting the people of Burundi, and HIV is a serious threat. The best protection against HIV? Abstinence until a faithful marriage to one husband or one wife.

The work of UCE Burundi recently drew the attention of the President of Burundi, Pierre Nkurunziza. President Nkurunziza commended the Universal Chastity Education team saying, "We appreciate what Bishop Martin and the UCE team are doing in sensitizing not only civilians but also the policemen and women about how to live faithfully in marriage in order to enjoy a family life exempt of violence, HIV/AIDS, and other  disorders. We request the Cabinet of the Minister of Security to partner with the UCE program so that all the policemen and women will adhere to the UCE teachings on a national level. We compliment such an initiative." ...Read more
