Greetings!
First and foremost, my heart and prayers go out to all those severely hit by hurricane Sandy. I have many colleagues whom were affected by this tragedy. Yes we are in the business of decorating and designing, but we are really in the business of making "homes" more livable. In the wake of this devastation their work will become even more important as they put back together their businesses, their client's homes and lives. My best wishes, thoughts, and donations go out to them all.

Top 5 Holiday Decorating Tips!
Whether it is for Thanksgiving, Hanukkah or Christmas, many people will do more decorating in the next 5 weeks or so than they do all year round! So to help you get ready for what seems like the Super Bowl of home decorating, read on for my much-requested Holiday Decorating tips.
As a decorator, I apply the same principles of design even when decorating for the holidays. Some tricks of the trade that you can apply in your home include:

1.DO De-clutter & take inventory: Start with a fresh palette. Remove the tired wall art, take away those spring/summer fun accessories- you can always put them back after the holidays.

2.DO CREATE a focal point: Perhaps you have an architectural feature in the room like a fireplace or a wall of windows. Don't have any architectural interest? Create it with color, a large piece of furniture or a piece of artwork. It doesn't always have to be the tree!

5 Autumn Tips!
This time of year is perfect for adding seasonal accents to your home. Materials are abundant everywhere. Hang a fall wreath on the front door; throw some gourds and twigs on a side table and it looks fabulous! You could do a little more if you choose. But it doesn't have to be hard or complicated. Especially if you live in a rural area as I do. I usually pick up leaves, turkey feathers (yes we have wild turkeys running around here in Sunol) buckeyes and walnuts on my morning run. That's what I like about a California Autumn; sunny, warm and full of beautiful nature and all for us to bring inside! Here are a few of my "Autumn Tips" to help you transform your home into a fall delight.
- Remove all table top runners and tablecloths that are in the styling of summer/spring and replace them with runners and tablecloths in autumn colors like rust, green, browns and burgundy. They don't have to be expensive these will be used as a back drop for the arrangements under which they set.
- Make your own dried leaf arrangements for the runners and tablecloths above. All you need is a vase and pruners to get this done. Use clippings of evergreens and cones mixed with twigs and turned leaves to create a focal point for the table or mantel. Remember that Scale is what makes these types of arrangements striking. Choose an oversize urn, large pottery from the garden shop, even an umbrella stand can make a striking vase for this arrangement.
