Are you a spiritual being having a physical experience or a physical being having an occasional spiritual experience?  Or something else all together?  And just why are we humans here at all?  Does universe even need us?  Is Stephen Hawking just plain wrong?

The New Story that is emerging has some very intriguing ideas about all this, ideas that might just help you leave the old story behind. With luminous images, inspiring quotes and sacred chant.

And we will be welcoming new members who were not able to make it to the Easter service when we welcomed other new members.

May Day:
The Past in the Future,

with
Rev. Ron Moor
and
The Larger Community
hosted by The Heart of the Beast

The annual Heart of the Beast May Day Parade and Festival is the largest non-denominational Celebration of Creation in the country. It brings together traditions from many spiritualities which honor and celebrate our earth and our relationship to all creation. It is really a re-enactment of the ancient mysteries brought to life in our time.

For the first time, our Spirit United community is  participating in the May Day Parade and Festival.  We will walk in the parade and have an information booth at Powderhorn Park festival site.

We will gather at 10:30am-11:00am at Spirit United on Como Avenue.  Ron will share the ancient and modern mysteries which are about to be enacted by the parade and festival traditions.  Those who want to participate in the May Day Parade and Festival at Powderhorn Park can car pool or drive to the parade starting site.

Practical Action as Spiritual Practice:
On Earth Day and Beyond
with guest speaker Claire Baglien
and community member Bob Gubrud
along with musicians
Meg Miura and David Chapman

How does your faith call you to respond to climate change in your everyday actions and spiritual practice?  Important to spiritual practice is our realization of our oneness with the God energy inside ourselves.  It is important to tap into this oneness as we address issues like climate change, to move us forward positively in a direction that makes sense.  We have to take action that tells a new story about how we want the world to work.  Claire and Bob spoke to facts, feelings and practical ways to address climate change in our everyday lives.

The Tao of Meditation Class
with Rev. Ron Moor

EVERY Wednesday, except holidays
10:00am-11:30am
$10-$15 suggested donation

Deepen your meditative practice, or begin one by joining us on Wednesday mornings. Our weekly gathering is to read, meditate and dialog on the profound wisdom found in the 2500 year-old text of "The Tao TeChing." These 81 short, poetic sayings have offered relief, gentle guidance, and a pathway to inner peace for countless millions of people.

Each week we will begin with a few minutes of breath work to deepen our focus, read one of the sayings, and then bring these ancient words into a 30-minute silent meditation. Following the meditation we will join in an open discussion of the meaning as it relates to our lives today. Part of our discussion will also be about how to deepen our practice of silence and stillness.
A Special Movie Night
featuring
The Way

hosted by Sue Arnold

Friday, April 22, 2016
7:30pm
$10 suggested donation for Spirit United

We will watch the feature film The Way staring Martin Sheen. Our host is Sue Arnold who made the same pilgrimage the movie portrays. She will add her comments during the movie, sharing her experiences along the way and particularly at the locations featured in the movie.  All funds go to Spirit United as we together experience our community transformation in this time of change, challenge, and transition to our new home.

THE WAY is a powerful and inspirational story about family, friends and the challenges we face while navigating this ever-changing and complicated world. Martin Sheen plays Tom, an irascible American doctor who comes to France to deal with the tragic loss of his son (played by Emilio Estevez). Rather than return home, Tom decides to embark on the historical pilgrimage "The Way of St. James" to honor his son's desire to finish the journey. What Tom doesn't plan on is the profound impact this trip will have on him. Through unexpected and oftentimes amusing experiences along "The Way," Tom discovers the difference between "the life we live and the life we choose."  Sheen's son Emilio Estevez wrote, directed and produced this film.

Wanted:  Coordinator for the William Meader Meditations next phase of SU's move.

During the first phase of the move, Janet Bergman graciously took on the role.  She organized the tasks and scheduled times to complete them.  People volunteered to fill the spots necessary to complete the tasks.  She would be a good "go to person" to learn more.

Contact the office by clicking here or calling 612-378-3602 to inquire or express your interest.  You may talk to Rev. Ron Moor or anyone on the Council of Stewards also.

Spirit United Prepares
for Sunday, May 1st  Gathering

Photos taken by Spirit United members as they supported the Heart of the Beast in making puppets for the 2016 May Day Parade.

A preview into the preparations for next week's Sunday Celebration.  Details above and below.

What wonderful opportunity it was to get the momentum started by attending the Heart of the Beast workshop! What fun it was to work at our station of choice to support the creation of this amazing tradition. Understanding the theme and story, we help ease our connection to the magic of the day. Here are photos to see how some of the  creatures for this year's parade and festival are made.

Rebecca Ratte, Paul and Gabriel were there. Gabriel, who attends Kids With Spirit at Spirit United, went to the Earth, Air, Fire, Water station. In this station they created animal hats that represent the different elements. Others chose to make Eagle heads. There were coyote and buffaloes also. People were busy making other animal heads. What an amazing evening is was.
