Practical Action as Spiritual Practice:
On Earth Day and Beyond

How do we respond to climate change in ways that are effective, life-giving and equitable? This Earth Day, and every other day, we can take action that is practical, structural and spiritual!
Claire Baglien, a former Kids With Spirit kid and Outreach Coordinator for MN Interfaith Power & Light (MNIPL) will lead a meditation and discussion on the collective power of faith communities addressing climate justice issues. She will share information about MNIPL projects, programs and ways faith communities can get involved.
Bob Gubrud will discuss initiatives from the Edina Energy and Environment Commission designed to engage residents in helpful actions on the issues of climate change. He will bring his knowledge as a Co-Chair Commissioner of the Edina Energy and Environment Commission's Education and Outreach Working Group and as a member of the Community Solar Subcommittee. He will share steps each of us can take to make a difference regardless of our lifestyle or where we live.

EVERY WEDNESDAY The Tao of Meditation Class with Rev. Ron Moor EVERY Wednesday, except holidays 10:00am-11:30am $10-$15 suggested donation Deepen your meditative practice, or begin one by joining us on Wednesday mornings. Our weekly gathering is to read, meditate and dialog on the profound wisdom found in the 2500 year-old text of "The Tao TeChing." These 81 short, poetic sayings have offered relief, gentle guidance, and a pathway to inner peace for countless millions of people.
Each week we will begin with a few minutes of breath work to deepen our focus, read one of the sayings, and then bring these ancient words into a 30-minute silent meditation. Following the meditation we will join in an open discussion of the meaning as it relates to our lives today. Part of our discussion will also be about how to deepen our practice of silence and stillness.

A group of healing practitioners from Spirit United offer healing services monthly. The format will flow according to how many people are interested. A Special Movie Night
featuring
The Way
hosted by Sue Arnold
Friday, April 22, 2016
7:30pm
$10 suggested donation for Spirit United
We will watch the feature film The Way staring Martin Sheen. Our host is Sue Arnold who made the same pilgrimage the movie portrays. She will add her comments during the movie, sharing her experiences along the way and particularly at the locations featured in the movie. All funds go to Spirit United as we together experience our community transformation in this time of change, challenge, and transition to our new home.
THE WAY is a powerful and inspirational story about family, friends and the challenges we face while navigating this ever-changing and complicated world. Martin Sheen plays Tom, an irascible American doctor who comes to France to deal with the tragic loss of his son (played by Emilio Estevez). Rather than return home, Tom decides to embark on the historical pilgrimage "The Way of St. James" to honor his son's desire to finish the journey. What Tom doesn't plan on is the profound impact this trip will have on him. Through unexpected and oftentimes amusing experiences along "The Way," Tom discovers the difference between "the life we live and the life we choose." Sheen's son Emilio Estevez wrote, directed and produced this film.

A Variety of Quotes about Healing
Did I offer peace today? Did I bring a smile to someone's face? Did I say words of healing? Did I let go of my anger and resentment? Did I forgive? Did I love? These are the real questions. I must trust that the little bit of love that I sow now will bear many fruits, here in this world and the life to come.
~ Henri Nouwen
Transformation is my favorite game and in my experience, anger and frustration are the result of you not being authentic somewhere in your life or with someone in your life. Being fake about anything creates a block inside of you. Life can't work for you if you don't show up as you.
~ Jason Mraz
One thing: you have to walk, and create the way by your walking; you will not find a ready-made path. It is not so cheap, to reach to the ultimate realization of truth. You will have to create the path by walking yourself; the path is not ready-made, lying there and waiting for you. It is just like the sky: the birds fly, but they don't leave any footprints. You cannot follow them; there are no footprints left behind.
~ Osho
The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, not to worry about the future, or not to anticipate troubles, but to live the present moment wisely and earnestly.
~ Buddha
The practice of forgiveness is our most important contribution to the healing of the world.
~ Marianne Williamson
We need to give each other the space to grow, to be ourselves, to exercise our diversity. We need to give each other space so that we may both give and receive such beautiful things as ideas, openness, dignity, joy, healing, and inclusion.
~ Max de Pree
