Sunday's at Spirit United
|
THIS SUNDAY
February 21, 2016 10:30am-11:30am Stepping Into Largeness with Rev. Ron Moor and musician Lynn O'Brien
Our community, Spirit United has had thrust upon us a huge challenge. We have to move. How we respond, the decisions we make, the actions we take, will carry consequences far into our future. Together, we will explore the pitfalls and possibilities. Together we will explore the potential for communal and individual growth. We have been called out. How do we step into largeness, how do we meet our higher destiny?

Humility. This year's theme: We create beauty in our lives and our world with Love, Wisdom, Respect, Honesty, Bravery, Truth and Humility.
The foundation for the theme comes from
The Seven Grandfathers' Teachings
of the Ojibwe people.

NEXT SUNDAY
MYSTERY SCHOOL SUNDAY February 28, 2016 10:30am-11:30am
Dancing the Limbo with Rev. Ron Moor and Saleem Adam Wolter will lead sacred dance With the notice to move, our community has entered into a time of limbo. In this state of limbo, the future is altered, less certain and even more unknown. Did you know limbo is the middle stage of initiation.
We will explore what the Cosmos might be asking of us. We will look at some of the different facets of this state of limbo. Then we will do what we can to move deeper into the consciousness of awakened doing. You will experience luminous images, sacred chant, inspirational quotes, and open discussion. We will end with sacred dance led by Saleem Adam Wolter.
Life is like a game of limbo in reverse. The bar keeps rising higher and we need to keep rising to the occasion.

LAST SUNDAY
February 14, 2016
10:30am-11:30am
Sharing Our Gifts:
SU's Talent Show
hosted by Robert Dunn
We vibrated to the music of a clarinetist, cellist and violinist. We were awakened by the beauty of an original song. Our souls were caressed by poetry, favorite reads as well as original work. We were dazzled by the creation of a beautiful picture book and the telling of a love story. And wowed by a mapping laureate. What an amazing morning. These intimate and sacred moments experienced are a treasure to behold by all who revealed their talents as well as those who were witness to their being. Robert thank you for your masterful facilitation. We had a technical difficulty with the recorder so this event was not recorded.

EVERY WEDNESDAY The Tao of Meditation Class with Rev. Ron Moor EVERY Wednesday, except holidays 10:00am-11:30am $10-$15 suggested donation Deepen your meditative practice, or begin one by joining us on Wednesday mornings. Our weekly gathering is to read, meditate and dialog on the profound wisdom found in the 2500 year-old text of "The Tao TeChing." These 81 short, poetic sayings have offered relief, gentle guidance, and a pathway to inner peace for countless millions of people.
Each week we will begin with a few minutes of breath work to deepen our focus, read one of the sayings, and then bring these ancient words into a 30-minute silent meditation. Following the meditation we will join in an open discussion of the meaning as it relates to our lives today. Part of our discussion will also be about how to deepen our practice of silence and stillness.

Mandala Workshop: A "Know Thyself" Experiential
with Ellen Swanson
Sunday, February 21, 2016 1:00pm-4:00pm $35, which includes materials RSVP to Ellen by clicking here or calling 952-929-1142
The word 'mandala' comes from a Sanskrit root word meaning "enclosing the essence." I also like to think of it as embracing the essence. It is difficult to visualize the circular embrace of your own essence in this linear society. This model invites us to balance our seemingly singular focus on the linear with the contributions of the circular. Each person will be given a template and some fundamental principles on how to apply the template to yourself. There will be individual work and group discussion.
Certificates of attendance available upon request.

SPIRIT UNITED IS ON THE MOVE...
Updates from the Meeting and Ways to Engage in the Process
Notes from the Update Meeting Last Sunday, February 14, 2016
We began with a meditation connecting with everyone who has walked through Spirit United's doors. We visualized the pathway between where we are now and our new home. Then we sat within this new space.
Location possibilities were reviewed by Ron and Ginny. Unfortunately none were satisfactory. We are still looking.
Three different organizations have come to us. They want to be co-renters if their needs can be met.
Other plans are being talked about if Plan A (to find our own place) doesn't happen quickly. Plan B is renting space that meets our minimum needs. Plan C is "church" in a box, to go into someone's space to do Sundays. Lively conversation happened. People shared ideas about where and how this might be done.
While the sorting and packing happens, we need two things. They are:
- Someone to look into what it would take to have a storage space like a pod. Along with being at the ready to complete an inventory.
- Fundraising that goes beyond pledges for operating expenses and operating expenses accrued because of the move. Someone must spearhead this vital need.
~~~~~~~~~
Engage with the Move.... See the block above for specific details of tasks currently being done.
Dear Members and Friends of Spirit United, As we all know the success of Spirit United's move depends on the engagement of the people in our community. We hope you will be one of those who helps make the change.
These are the identified tasks thus far that require people to engage. Look at the list. Determine where you will provide your skills and time. Then, contact Patti Gmeiner by clicking here. (Below is information Patti needs to connect you with the task. Be sure to see the last paragraph.)
1. Cleaning and sorting. People are needed to go through the entire space to get rid of things that have accumulated that are unnecessary for Spirit United to hold onto. These things must be thrown out, given away or sold, depending upon their nature.
2. The library sorting and packing. People are needed to go through the entire library, eliminate duplicate copies and those books which may be ancient and no longer of relevance or of great interest to the community. The remainder need to be packed in boxes labeled.
3. Administrative Office. We need a person(s) to help Joan go through her office, eliminate that which may be disposed of, then, sort, pack and clean when the time comes to do so. (Joan has the last say on this one...that is, how, who, how many and when.)
4. Packing. We need people, when the time is right, to help pack up everything within the entire space and get it ready for transport.
5. Moving. We need people (unless we can find a reasonable commercial mover) to help move all items within the space either to the new home or to storage, depending upon the situation.
6. Unpacking. People will be needed to help unpack and place items in the new space to ready it for use.
7. Initial Weeks of Operation. We will need people to help get everything done in a timely fashion, during the first few weeks, to make sure that operations continue without missing a beat and to help while we are putting all of the persons needed to run the new space into position.
When you decide to volunteer for one or more of these tasks, please send an email to council member, Patti Gmeiner. Click here to share your information: Your name, telephone number, email address and the task(s) you are willing to volunteer. After Patti receives your interest, she will send the names of others you will contact to plan and accomplish the task within the timeline needed.
Please let us hear from you soon to keep things moving forward.
Thank you,
Rev. Ron Moor
and the Council of Stewards
