LAST SUNDAY
November 1, 2015 Ancient Middle Eastern Prayer: Contacting the Unseen
with guest speaker John Hakim Bushnell
Hakim brought to us an opportunity to experience and understand ancient practices of Middle Eastern prayer. It is here we find the foundation to the modern religion today. AND He reminded us going back to the roots of these religions allows the baggage which has built-up over the centuries within the religions to drop away. Putting into practice ancient Middle Eastern prayer, we can approximate in our own experience, the experience of our great teachers like Mohammad or Jesus or Buddha. It is a direct path. Listen, click here.

GREETINGS FROM GUATEMALA
A Note from Ron October 29, 2015

Hello Spirit United and Friends,
Good day yesterday. I Joined with what is called the "non medicals", mostly partners of the medical team, in taking a 30 minute drive to the Mayan Village of Santiago Zamora.
About 20 years ago the women decided to find a way to break out of the cycle of poverty that afflicts many of the Mayan peoples. They started a weaving cooperative, pooling all their efforts in an attempt to earn extra money. Most Mayan children have to drop out of school by age 8 or 9 and go to work. The women's efforts, often against the wishes of their husbands, earned enough money to keep many of their children in school long enough to get at least a high school education, a rarity among Guatemalans. Then they could get much better work.
They had the bright idea of inviting tourists to their village, putting on a little demo of how the extraordinarily beautiful textiles are done on very simple equipment, then selling their woven items direct. (Left) Filomena, greeting us and explaining how the co-op came to be. Currently 8 women are in the co-op. (It used to be more but many of the men of the village were threatened and forced their wives to quit and stay at home.)
(Right) Maria showing us her specialty - amazingly beautiful, intricate work. (There are flower petals on the floor and 3 candles, a simple Mayan altar used in the greeting ceremony.)
(Left) Maria, two of her granddaughters, and a pale face from the north (Ron Moor).
(Right) Our hosts, all in traditional Mayan dress. All had woven.
(Left) A little dance to welcome us before they fed us a simple lunch of rice, chicken, squash and tortillas.

Thank Your Lilly
