Embracing Pain & Trauma As Our Guide To Deeper Spiritual Growth
with guest speaker Mark Umbreit

Mark shared from his own journey and heart what he has learned in his work with folks from around here and around the world.  Pain - Trauma is inevitable.  It can either crush us and bring us down or it can be truly a gift of awakening.  It can be a guide to a deeper spirituality-more earthy spirituality, not theology, not the thinking, not the mind, but the being.  Pain is a reality...Suffering is optional.

GREETINGS FROM GUATEMALA
Ron and Sandy

Potential patients waiting to see a surgeon to find out if they get to have much needed surgery. Most come from small villages up to 500 miles away, riding buses for days to get to to Antigua.

Hermano Pedro, the Catholic orphanage where the four operating rooms are located.

Sandy is assisting with the surgeries. The team is running four operating rooms and did twenty surgeries the first day.  Ron has been in the Post Op the first two afternoons.

Some big outfit donated over a million dollars of intravenous Tylenol that arrived in early October and expires in late November.  (A huge pallet of it that is just sitting in the hall of the hospital.) Other pain medications are in relatively short supply, so the hospital says to give everybody Tylenol and some of the patients are in more pain than they would otherwise. So Ron has been working with some of those patients in the post op, with some seemingly success.  Anyway, the staff is now happy to have him assisting.

Sandy visiting Maria, one of her 3 goddaughters she sponsors here in Guatemala. Maria is in the darker pink next to Sandy. Maria's mom in her apron with 4 of her 6 children.  They live in a two room home with a small courtyard. Maria's father is a mason and has been building a second floor for the past 2 years, as he gets a little extra money to put to the project.

This is part of the courtyard of our little hotel, Hotel Aurora, with all of 26 rooms.

Lovely old building.
