THIS SUNDAY
MYSTERY SCHOOL SUNDAYOctober 25, 2015 10:30am-11:30am
Embracing Pain & Trauma As Our Guide To Deeper Spiritual Growth
with guest speaker Mark Umbreit
Pain and trauma are often realities we face in our life's journey. Suffering, however, is optional. Decisions we make, approaches we embrace, the power of fear, determine if pain leads to ever increasing suffering or becomes a gift of awakening that triggers a deep sense of gratitude for life and an endless quest for spiritual growth.
Mark will share stories from his own life's journey, his family, and the many people and communities he has worked with in restorative justice and peace building throughout the U.S. and in numerous other countries, including Israel and Palestine, in their quest for healing and restoration. All of these real life stories truly breathe life into the notion that pain is a reality but suffering is optional. Practices that foster this journey will be shared.

Two of Four Recently Published Authors within our Spirit United Community

Colleen Chen wrote Dysmorphic Kingdom
released in July, 2015
by Montag Press
Where do souls come from? This question has never been answered in quite as unique a way as it is in Dysmorphic Kingdom, Colleen Chen's debut fantasy novel. In this adult fairy tale, a young woman named Vesper goes on a journey with a talking, animated body part that has somehow detached from the rest of its person and become its own separate being. Dysmorphic Kingdom is high fantasy with a philosophical bouquet, raising questions about conquering both our insecurities with ourselves and our differences with others, all in a polarity-ridden world. To check it out on Amazon click here.
Chen received her B.A. in PPE (Philosophy, Politics, and Economics) from Pomona College in Claremont, CA, and her J.D. from Harvard Law School. Her stories have been published in a number of venues online and in print in seve ral anthologies. She blogs online and is a reviewer for the speculative fiction review site Tangent Online. Click here to check out her blog.

Clara Grace James wrote and compiled her photography in Nature's Gateway to Wisdom
Clara Grace's book features lovely nature photos, with a page of stories and cultural and/or spiritual meanings associated with each picture. The book offers a look at how nature can serve as a gateway to our inner spiritual world. The introduction to the book is about why spiritual teachers throughout the ages have taught the vital importance of staying in the now, and how that leads us to peace and enlightenment.
Bio: Clara Grace is a retired Family Counselor. She worked with Hennepin county Family Court as a Family Counselor/Mediator and Supervisor, and as a Bloomington School Social worker. After early retirement she took up photography and writing. Her photography reunited her with her love of nature as she discovered a fascinating new world of wonder. Nature began to teach her how to step back from the pain and complexities of the world. It opened a gateway to spiritual transformation which has brought her unexpected peace and joy. Her book is her way of sharing it with the world. ~~~~~~~~~ Authors yet to be featured Virginia Moran and Ellen Swanson.

Pot Luck and Forum Scheduled
Sunday, November 22, 2015
After Mystery School Sunday
Lunch We will begin our gathering by breaking bread together with a pot luck style feast. Bring your favorite dish and some fixings to share with your Spirit United family.
The Forum It is a time of questioning, of exploring, of challenge. That is certainly true of our Spirit United Community. Our challenges offer each of us an opportunity to practice being present to Spirit as we look toward Spirit United's future. The purpose of the forum is to dialog about who we are, who, and what we worship, the terminology we use, even the very nature of our Sunday morning gatherings. Come be present to Spirit as we envision our community's future.
The forum will begin by inviting Spirit to join us. Then a brief history of how and why Spirit United was formed will be given to provide context. A talking stick will be used to facilitate the listening and speaking process.
Mark your calendar and plan to attend.
