with Community member
Cliff Robbins

From his African American experience, emphasizing human similarity rather than difference, Cliff will speak of his journey through pain leading him to a greater understanding.

Knowing people, and more importantly knowing yourself, is central to dealing with pain in a positive way.  He will explain the stereotyping factor, the divide and conquer factor and the myth of superiority and inferiority.

Embracing Pain & Trauma As Our Guide To Deeper Spiritual Growth
with guest speaker Mark Umbreit

Pain and trauma are often realities we face in our life's journey.  Suffering, however, is optional. Decisions we make, approaches we embrace, the power of fear, determine if pain leads to ever increasing suffering or becomes a gift of awakening that triggers a deep sense of gratitude for life and an endless quest for spiritual growth.

Mark will share stories from his own life's journey, his family, and the many people and communities he has worked with in restorative justice and peace building throughout the U.S. and in numerous other countries, including Israel and Palestine, in their quest for healing and restoration. All of these real life stories truly breathe life into the notion that pain is a reality but suffering is optional. Practices that foster this journey will be shared.

Pain and Crisis ~ The Gate to Enlightenment ~
with William Meader
and musicians Meg Miura and David Chapman

William shared how the esoteric philosophy looks at pain and crisis as being a function of the evolution of consciousness itself.  He talked about it in two ways.  First from the point of view of you, an individual becoming soulful in life and more evolved in your consciousness.  And by using the same set of principles, applying them to the larger whole of humanity.

Pot Luck and Forum Scheduled

Sunday, November 22, 2015
After Mystery School Sunday

Lunch  We will begin our gathering by breaking bread together with a pot luck style feast.  Bring your favorite dish and some fixings to share with your Spirit United family.

The Forum  We are answering the call to gather in community to address questions that have emerged.  What is happening to our community of Spirit United? In many ways we have never been more vibrant. During the last few weeks we have hosted Tibetan Monks who shared sacred chant, an internationally acclaimed teacher of The Seven Rays, Native American Pipe Carriers, and Mayan Shaman. Even with such offerings, attendance and financial support have been wildly inconsistent. Is there a message here? If so what is it?

Serendipity supports the forum's timing as the theme for November is The Spiritual Practice of Being Present to Spirit. Our forum calls us to be present to Spirit in our time and in our community as we witness old forms dying, new ones emerging.  So too our Spirit United is being called to seek answers to questions as we move forward. Who are we? What is the evolving purpose, the function, of our Sunday morning gathering? Who, or what, and how do we worship? How relevant is the whole concept of worship? Many in our community have been asking these questions frequently so the time is now. It is time for you and everyone who cares about Spirit United to engage in dialog about these pertinent questions.

Other important questions also being asked include: How do we meet our financial challenge? How do we consistently attract and retain more people? How do we become more diverse?  How do we nurture and deepen our community?  If time permits we can begin to explore these as well.

The forum will begin by inviting Spirit to join us. Then to give context to the discussion, a brief history of how and why Spirit United was formed will be given.  A talking stick will be used to facilitate the listening and speaking process. As the discussion unfolds, we will be called to actively participate in the spiritual practice of being present to Spirit putting our understanding into practice with our own Spirit United. Mark your calendar and plan to attend.  Your voice is important to be heard.
