The Mystery of Mystery Schools: July's Theme of Living Life with Purpose

As most of us know from experience, figuring out what our purpose is can be challenging. Let's look to our wiser ancestors for some guidance. We call our 4th Sunday Mystery School Sunday. Well, what were the mystery schools of antiquity and what was their purpose? How do they have any relevance to what is unfolding now? The answers might surprise you. Hint: Aspects of the social, environmental and economic justice movements are very much in the best tradition of the mystery schools. Presented with luminous images, inspirational quotes and sacred chant.

This event is open to all drummers and all levels
You will learn:
- Two easy to use 4/4 Rhythms on Djembe
- Two easy to use 6/8 Rhythms on Djembe
- Left and right hand coordination drumming with stick and bell at the same time
- Participate in two Full Ensemble Rhythms with Djun and Djembe
Frank Thompson is a nationally known professional West African Drum Instructor, Drum Circle Facilitator, and Corporate Educator. He is the founder of the AZ Rhythm Connection and has been facilitating rhythm for over 25 years. Frank has created a masterly effective and fun style of teaching West African Drumming for the American Adult learner. He has taken many workshops with noted Master Drummers, Mamady Keita, Abdoul Doumbia, Ali Thomas and Moustapha Bangoura.

Kirtan is a sacred call and response chanting experience that comes to us from India. The repetition of ancient Sanskrit mantras and holy names induces a deep state of concentration and bliss. With its power to hear and open the heart, Kirtan is the primary practice of Bhakti yoga, the yoga of devotion.
Temple of Light is an emerging Kirtan band in the Twin Cities that offers a meditative musical journey through vocals, harmonium, guitar, drum, and traditional Indian percussion instruments.

The group will decide future meeting dates. 12:00pm-1:30pm Bring your own lunch. There will not be any particular chapters that need to be read by any particular meeting. This is about having a place to come to share and ask questions no matter where you are in the book. That is the Mandala Way, honoring what each person has to bring to the collective from wherever they are. That is true faith and trust, that each will hear something they need to hear from someone else.
