Greetings!

The forces that are driving mankind toward unity and peace are deep-seated and powerful.  They are material and natural, as well as moral and intellectual.
~Arthur Henderson

Wisdom is nothing but a preparation of the soul, a capacity, a secret art of thinking, feeling and breathing thoughts of unity at every moment of life.

THIS SUNDAY
SCHOOL SUNDAY
December 28, 2014
10:30am-11:30am
"The Unity of Now: Our Concluding School Sunday for 2014 " with Rev. Ron Moor

In this moment, past and present, future and destiny come together and we are One. On this last Sunday of the year, we will briefly look back to the journey of our community through 2014, ground ourselves in the eternal present and call in our higher destiny. That destiny, in spite, or perhaps because of, our current troubles, is the co-creating of The New Story of our world.

Together we can help birth a world with more beauty, more joy, more connection, more exuberance, and more love than the one we have known. With luminous images, inspiring quotes, sacred chant and community discussion.

10:30am-11:30am
Twelve Ways of Spirit: Starting Our Journey Into a Year of Spiritual Growth
with Rev. Ron Moor

On this first Sunday in 2015, Ron will introduce our theme for the year from which we will explore 12 "spiritual" practices, each of which we have an opportunity to engage nearly every day in our "normal" lives.  We do so to deepen who we are and to be more able to participate in the unfolding transformation of our world.  Ron will also speak to January's sub-theme Waking Up To Spirit.

Ron will be referencing and using the following books as a guide throughout the year:  Barbara Brown Taylor's An Altar in the World: A Geography of Faith (Harper Collins) and  Charles Eisenstein's The More Beautiful World Our Heart Knows Is Possible (North Atlantic Books).
LAST SUNDAY   December 21, 2014

"The Wizard's Tale"
with guest speaker and musician Claudia Schmidt

The last Sunday service on the Solstice with Claudia Schmidt was fantastic! Her storytelling and musical numbers were extraordinary. She had us all singing a three-way round with three different songs! We can't wait till she comes back in March.  Click here to listen.

Deepen your meditative practice or begin one by joining us.  We will gather weekly to read, meditate, and dialog on the profound wisdom found in the 2500 year old text of The Tao Te Ching.  These 81 short, poetic sayings have offered relief, gentle guidance, and a pathway to inner peace for countless millions.  Each week we will begin with a few minutes of breath work to deepen our focus, read one of the sayings, and then bring these ancient words into a 30 minute silent meditation.  Following the meditation we will join in an open discussion of the meaning as it relates to our lives today.

Community Corner
A Solstice Blessing
    by Chris Heeter

Less than a week, the light will slowly lengthen.
The temptation to count the days, to hold your breath into
evening and early morning, forcing back the darkness.
What a relief it will be, these light-starved bodies
to see again, no longer fumbling in darkness.
Still, somewhere deep inside, past resistance and reason,
you know this darkness, too, is your home, a place where
you were taught to hurry through lest you be swallowed
by the whale of darkness, never to be seen again.
Your soul knows better.  Your soul knows night
is the place of dreams.  Far beyond what seeing eyes
call horizon, night eyes know no such boundary.
So on these long nights of winter solstice, may you find
your wildest dreams walking companionable beside you,
having waited for you all this time to turn toward darkness
and find, not fear, but peace and courage and wild abandon,
to turn toward a life you haven't dared live.

This is the reading Claudia Schmidt used last Sunday.
Joan Johnson submitted it because of many requests.  Enjoy!
