July 2, 2014
Greetings!
"People need people...Somehow interaction with the larger social world of others draws our attention outside of ourselves, enlarges our focus, enhances our ability to cope, and seems to make the brain reactions more stable and the person less vulnerable to disease."
~ Researchers in The Healing Brain from "The Healing Powers of Community" by Carolyn R Shaffer and Kristen Anundsen Sept/Oct '95 Utne Reader

of Spirit United:
A Passageway to Involvement"
with community member Ellen Swanson
Our organizational chart uses 2 symbols with deep meaning. They represent reunification, encircling essence, balance restoration, being present in the now, going inward instead of frantically onward, and consolidating the inner being. Come learn how it can guide us as individuals, how it guides our community, and how it can guide you within our community.

July 13, 2014 10:20am-11:30am
"Opening To Love "
with Rev. Ron Moor and musician James Schattauer and special music with Bruce Menier Bell
The first six months of our journey through 2014 has been about coming home to whom we are. We do that by waking up, letting go, and healing. Our next six months is about relatedness-with our whole self, with consciousness, with reality, with people, with community. It is about Love.
In July, we will explore mystical love, the love Rumi speaks to with these lines:
There is some kiss we want
with our whole lives,
the touch of Spirit on the body.
Perhaps, together, we can invoke, and experience, the touch of Spirit as we gather on Sunday mornings.

wisdom. One being that healing is a remembering of your wholeness. Don't miss this. Click here.

Info to reflect upon before Ellen's Sunday Service this week.
The Benefits of Community
- "An important reason to seek functional or conscious community is that it can keep you healthier in many respects."*
- "Dr. Dean Ornish, a California specialist in coronary heart disease, developed a treatment program with support groups that surprised him and his colleagues with its positive results: Chest pains diminished or went away entirely, severe blockages in coronary arteries reversed, and patients became more energetic."*
- "...Anything that leads to real intimacy and feelings of connection can be healing in the real sense of the word: to bring together, to make whole. The ability to be intimate has long been seen as a key to emotional health; I believe it is essential to the health of our hearts as well."*
- "A study at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospitals and Columbia University in New York City revealed that, for people with heart disease, living alone is a major independent risk factor comparable to such factors as previous heart damage and heart rhythm disturbances."*
- "A team of Stanford Medical School psychiatrists, led by Dr. David Spiegel found that metastatic breast cancer patients who joined support groups lived nearly twice as long as those receiving only medical care."*
- "Several studies suggest that it is not the number of personal contacts that affects people's health, but the degree to which people perceive that they have someone they can turn to."*
-"Psychologists at the University of Washington concluded that even supportive actions and words do not necessarily translate into perceived support. 'It all depends on whether your social support comes from someone you believe truly loves, values, and respects you,' concluded one of the researchers, Dr. Gregory Pierce."*
