                                                             April 10, 2013

Greetings!

An Invitation and OpportunityOn April 21, after the service, Spirit United will start its "makover" by spending the rest of the day (till 5:00pm) preparing the gathering area, the sanctuary and hallways for fresh paint.  To do the bulk of the preparation in one day, we require a large number of hands on deck.  We will need to move all furniture and portable items away from the walls, take down all fabric hangings and pictures, patch and prime holes in the walls, wipe down and tape off areas that require taping before painting, cover certain areas with plastic and clean areas that will not be painted this time but need scrubbing.  We will also need a good number of people for two hours on the following Saturday, April  26th, from 10am-Noon, to put the gathering area and sanctuary back into usable form for the next day's service.

If members and friends of Spirit United give of their time on Sunday the 21st and/or Saturday the 26th, we could assure that the project will be completed before the following Sunday's service and save Spirit United a great deal of money.

Are you game?  Let us know by clicking here.  Provide us with your name, telephone number (or email, if you prefer) and the date and time you can join us.  We will call you before the event to give you more information about what to bring, etc.

It takes a community to make a community.  Please join us for an afternoon of working together to make Spirit United's home reflect the beautiful jewel that it is.  Lunch will be provided.

Living the New Paradigm

April: Health and Food

This Sunday - "Living the New Creation"
MelDuncan
Mel Duncan on Right
April 14th,   10:30 - 11:30am
By: Mel Duncan

The Spirit of Creation is seamlessly within and around us.  In these times of great peril, we are called to accept our roles as co-creators in this world.  Hear how people from around the world have stepped forward as nonviolent peacekeepers to protect civilians caught up in war.  Together they are transforming the way the world deals with violent conflict.

Bio: Mel Duncan is one of the founders of the Nonviolent Peaceforce.  His vision began when he went to Nicaragua with the coffee/cotton brigades during the Contra war in 1984 and saw that villages were not attacked when foreigners were present.  Today, these many years later, the Nonviolent Peaceforce consists of peacekeepers from all over the world who live and work in communities affected by violence.  They engage directly with armed forces to reduce violence by building trust and confidence among all the Parties...creating safe spaces for local solutions to conflict.
Next Sunday - "The Dragonfly Dialogues"
April 21st, 10:30-11:30am
By: James Schattauer
JamesHeadshot

In celebration of Earth Day, James Schattauer will speak about his mystical experience communing for two summers with a very wise being in the form of a dragonfly.  A fanciful, "channeled" dialogue emerged between James and the dragonfly, which he  calls The Dragonfly Dialogues.

James will be sharing excerpts from this encounter, as well as other stories and songs of his continuing dialogue with nature and all that surrounds us.

"Ideas Don't Transform People,
Practices Do!"
By:
Marc Anderson

MarcAndersonMusic In a very down-home but inspirational talk, Marc relayed how a simple daily practice of going within can make the spiritual difference in people's lives... a difference for which they may have been searching for years through reading just "one more" book or attending just one more seminar.

The simplicity and beauty of his message was matched only by the simplicity and beauty of his music.

Spirit United Matters

  • The Meditation Room will be open from 9:45 - 10:15am each Sunday morning.  Your presence in this place of peace and serenity will be most welcome.  Kathleen O'Donovan and Glenn Kline will be there to hold the space for all who wish to join in the silent meditation prior to the service.
  • The Spirit United "Talking Circle" will be discontinued and the Spirit Vine Listeners will be available after church services for a one-on-one talking/listening session for anyone who needs an ear or support for whatever may be happening in his or her life.  You will find a Spirit Vine person outside the meditation room after the service for this purpose.  This idea and request came from several of those people attending the "Who are We and Where are We going " forum a few weeks ago.  Thanks for the suggestion.
