Younger and Smarter
About three weeks ago, my 9 year old grandson Skyler was visiting me.  He asked if he could show me something on the computer... and, as always, I said "of course."

He opened Internet Explorer and said "watch this."  He pressed a key on the keyboard and I looked at the screen and asked "Skyler: what happened to the Title Bar, Menu Bar, and the Search Bar?"  He said "don't worry, Grandpa, I'll put it back."

He again pressed a key on the keyboard and everything returned to normal.  When I asked him what key he pressed, he told me it was the F11 key and, like a light switch, it turns the feature on and off.  He then explained that by removing the Title Bar, Menu Bar and Search Bar, that you could now view the entire Internet screen.  When I asked him how he learned this, he told me that when has time, he goes to the Computer Lab at school and "explores."

Well, on the next day, Monday, I received a call from a client who said "Alan, I have a terrible problem.  My grandchildren were over during the weekend and now, when I launch Internet Explorer, there's no Menu Bar or Search Bar.  Can you fix this?"  Well, armed with my newly learned "Skyler Trick," I said "OK Richard... just look at the keyboard and find the F11 key at the top of the keyboard, and press it."  "Wow!", he said.  "I knew you'd know how to fix this."

I could have taken credit, but I told him the story about how my grandson showed this to me just the day before.  We both had a good laugh.

I told my partners about this and wouldn't you know it?  A few days later, one of my partners was called about the same problem.

Just so you know... it works in Google Chrome, too.

Next time my grandson visits, I'm going to take notes!
